FIVE KENDALL SC TEAMS QUALIFY FOR SFUYSA REGULAR SEASON PLAYOFFS

February 7, 2012 – Five Kendall SC teams - U11B White, U13B White, U13B Blue, 97 Pre-Academy, and U15B White – qualified for the SFUYSA Regular Season playoffs, which will be held in Plantation’s Pine Island and Central parks this coming weekend. The playoffs start on Friday, February 10 and conclude on Sunday, February 11. See below for a schedule of first round matches.

Leading the way for Kendall SC is the U13B White, who followed up their first place finish in the Early Season with an undefeated Regular Season and a record of 11 wins and one tie in Division 1. Between both seasons they have amassed a record of 20 wins, 1 loss and 1 tie. They will play Doral United at 8:00 AM in Pine Island Park on Saturday in the Quarterfinal round.

The U13B Blue also had a very strong showing in Division 2, finishing in third place in one of the two brackets with a record of 9 wins, 1 loss and 2 ties. They will face off in a Quarterfinal match against Miami Lakes on Friday at 6:30 PM in Pine Island Park.

After two losses in their first three games, the U11B White battled back and went undefeated the rest of the season in Division 1 to earn a fourth place finish in one of the two brackets with a record of 6 wins 2 losses and 4 ties. They will go up against SAA Real Madrid in the Quarterfinal round on Friday at 8 PM in Pine Island Park.

The 97 Pre-Academy team, which had finished in third place in the Premier Group in Early Season followed that up with another strong third place finish in Division 1 during the Regular Season. Their record of 9 wins, 2 losses and 1 tie registered the only setbacks by one-goal margins against the top two teams in the league. They will get a rematch against SAA Real Madrid in the Semifinal on Saturday at Noon in Pine Island Park.

The U15B White, which didn’t come together in time to play in the Early Season, made good use of the preparation time and finished in second place in Division 2 with an almost perfect record of 11 wins and only one loss. They outscored their opponents by a convincing margin of 52 to 10. They play in the Quarterfinals on Friday at 6:30 PM against Tropical CAM in Central Park.

Kendall SC Edges Bethesda in Disney Showcase Opener

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- When the center official blew the final whistle, Luchi Gonzalez released a triumphant punch into the air that was half excitement, half relief.

Gonzalez coaches the U.S. Soccer Development Academy’s Kendall SC (Fla.) under-15/16 squad that had just edged Bethesda SC (Md.) 3-2 in a rare meeting between Academy and non-Academy programs, which took place Tuesday at the Disney Soccer Showcase.

“As a coaching staff, we had been joking that Academy teams don’t lose to non-Academy teams,” Gonzalez said. “But I had heard really good things about [Bethesda SC]. They have some very good players. They are an Academy-level team. In fact, they’re better than some of [the Academy] teams we’ve played.”

The compliment was reassuring to Bethesda SC coach Brett Colton, whose team never recovered from a 2-0 first-half deficit in a match that was interrupted for 70 minutes at halftime due to thunder storms.

“We gave away two set pieces. We were not sharp. It was not a good performance,” Colton said of Bethesda’s first-half effort where the pace was slow and Kendall controlled the play.

Kendall’s Ricardo Gomez headed in the first goal and Jorge Torres, who assisted in Gomez’s goal, struck a free kick for a 2-0 lead. As the teams returned to action in the second half, a public address announcer issued a storm warning and cleared the fields, which ended up being the additional break Bethesda needed, Colton said.

“We held a team meeting, then smaller meetings,” Colton said. “We talked about our play and that we needed to be better.”

Paul Lewis answered the call with a goal early in the second half for Bethesda that swung momentum.

“After the break, I got the guys out to the field early and get warmed up,” Gonzalez said. “Physically, we were ready. Mentally, we were not. We were up 2-0 and [Bethesda] had nothing to lose.

The Maryland team had the better of the play most of the second half. However, in the final 10 minutes, Eddy Pineiro put Kendall up 3-1 on a shot that went through the Bethesda keeper’s legs. Bethesda responded with a goal by Ngeindaloh Smith, making it 3-2. Bethesda kept the pressure up until the final whistle.

“When it was 3-2, there was belief and hope [for Bethesda],” Gonzalez said. “At the end, though, we got the result and got through it.”

Bethesda SC, which would have been the top seed in its Showcase bracket, was invited to participate in the Academy Division to round out the 16-team field, Colton said.

U11B WHITE CLAIM GOLD CHAMPIONSHIP AT PLANTATION THANKSGIVING CLASSIC

December 5, 2011 – It all came together for Kendall SC’s U11B White as they notched five consecutive victories to capture the Gold Championship in this year’s edition of the Plantation Thanksgiving Classic. Also posting superior performances for Kendall SC at the tournament were the U10B White who reached the Gold Final and the U17B Blue who won their group and advanced to the U17 Semifinal.

The U11B White confirmed their status as one of the top U11 teams in South Florida starting off strong in group play with wins over Lee County Strikers (5-1), Cyclone Hollywood Soccer Hollywood Blue (2-1) and Boynton Knights Black (7-3). In the semifinal Kendall SC avenged one of its two regular season losses by defeating Coral Springs United Green in a hard fought 1-0 decision. The Final pitted the boys against one of their strongest local rivals, West Pines United Black. The contest would stretch to the final whistle and beyond as Kendall SC needed overtime and penalty kicks to seal the 3-2 victory and claim the championship hardware. The U10B White kicked off with two dominating performances in crossover play against the teams from the opposing flight, defeating FC Florida South 12-2 and Cape Coral Cyclones 6-0 before tying Miami Lakes SC 3-3 to secure first place in their own flight. The Final pitted Kendall SC once again against Miami Lakes in a game that would mirror the opening round match and go down to the wire. After battling through regulation and overtime, the teams set up for kicks from the mark, and this time Miami Lakes held the edge to win 4-3 and send Kendall SC home with a second place finish. The U17B Blue did not allow a goal in group play and finished undefeated after defeating Boynton Knights (4-0) and West Pines United Gold (2-0), and tying Strictly Soccer 0-0. Their first place finish earned them a semifinal match against CTC EMBO Soccer Academy, the team that finished first in the Premier group of the SFUYSA Early Season. Kendall SC gave their opponents a strong match, but fell short in the end losing by a 0-2 margin and CTC went on to become the eventual tournament champion. Four other Kendall SC teams competed in the tournament, including: the U9B White, who finished with a 0-2-1 record in the Gold group; the U9B Blue, who finished with a 1-2-0 record in the Blue group; the U10B Blue, who finished with a 0-3-0 record in the Blue Group; and the U12B White, who also finished 0-3-0 in the Gold group.

SIX KENDALL SC ALUMNI EARN COLLEGIATE AWARDS

December 3, 2011 – Six Kendall SC alumni earned post-season awards for their performances on the pitch in the recently concluded college season. Headlining the group are Pablo Punyed (St. John’s), who was named Co-Midfielder of the Year in the Big East Conference, and Andrew Quintana (UCF), who earned a spot on the All-Conference USA First Team. Others receiving recognition were Rafa Faria (Rollins), Lazaro Gil (Lewis), Diego Figueroa (Lincoln College) and Fabio Raucci (Cape Fear College). In addition, 22 Kendall SC alumni were on teams that qualified for the NCAA Division 1, 2 or 3 National Championship Tournaments.

Punyed, who graduated from Coral Park Senior High School in 2008, completed his collegiate career at St. John’s University in fine form earning All-Big East First Team honors in addition to the Midfielder of the Year recognition. He is the fourth St. John’s player to earn Midfielder of the Year accolades since 2000 when the award was first presented in the conference. He tallied four goals in the regular season, including two game-winners, and a career-high three assists. Pablo’s brother, Renato, plays for Kendall SC’s U16 US Soccer Development Academy team. Quintana, who graduated from Florida Chrisitan School in 2009, anchored UCF’s backline and started all 17 regular season contests. He was second on the team in minutes with 1,551. The defender helped UCF limit opponents to only 1.00 goals allowed per game, which ranked first in C-USA. The Knights posted five shutouts during the regular season. The all-league honor is the first for Quintana. Faria, a Gulliver Prep 2009 graduate who transferred to Rollins College after spending his freshman and sophomore years at Penn State University, had a breakout season for the Tars to earn Division II All-South Region First Team honors. He provided a strong offensive spurt, scoring 7 goals and notching 9 assists to combine for 23 points, the highest on the team. Gil, who joined Lewis University’s Division II team after earning his Associate degree from Garden City Community College, was named to the All-Great Lakes Valley Conference Third Team. He started all of the team’s 18 regular season matches. Figueroa, a 2010 graduate of Killian Senior High School is completing his second year at Lincoln College and earned All-Midwest Athletic Conference Second Team honors. Raucci, a 2010 graduate of John A. Ferguson Senior High School, received an All-Region 10 Honorable Mention playing for Cape Fear College. U13B WHITE AND 96 PRE-ACADEMY TEAMS EXCELLED IN EARLY SEASON PLAY

November 11, 2011 – Kendall SC’s U13B White and 96 Pre-Academy (U16) teams finished atop their respective age groups at the conclusion of the SFUYSA Early Season, finishing the championship with only one loss apiece. Close on their heels were the 97 Pre-Academy (U15), U17 White and U18 White, which all finished among the top four teams in the Premier brackets of their age groups, earning them automatic entry into the Late Season Playoffs in the Spring.

SFUYSA established Early Season play in Division 1 for the U13 age group for the first time ever and the U13B White, coming of an appearance in last season’s Region A Cup finals, showed they have not skipped a beat. Marcos Colman’s team reeled off nine straight victories before bowing out with a loss in the last game of the season, by which time their first place finish was well assured.

Kendall SC’s commanding performance put them 10 points clear of the second place finisher. The run to the top was marked by a stalwart defensive performance in which they recorded five shutouts and allowed less than one goal per game. But the attacking players did not just rely on the strong play of the back line and keepers, netting 2.7 goals per game - almost one goal per game more than their closest rival.

“If they continue playing at this level against the very strong competition we have in South Florida, I believe the boys are capable making a deep run in the FYSA State Cup,” said Mr. Colman. “They have made a seamless transition to the big field and are taking advantage of their skill on the ball and size in several key positions.”

The newly formed 96 Pre-Academy team, took a few games to adjust to their new surroundings, but once they hit the accelerator they went undefeated in their last eight games to edge out crosstown rival Kendall Hammocks for first place, in no small part due to an emotional 4-2 win over the Lighting to give them bragging rights west of the Florida Turnpike.

“It is great to see the boys perform at the top even if our primary goal is to prepare them for next year when the core of this team will have the opportunity to earn a spot on the US Soccer Development Academy U16 team,” said coach Chris Rich, who doubles as an assistant coach for FIU’s Men’s Soccer Team. “I hope that we get a chance later in the year to see how they match up with the three South Florida teams that were playing in the Region III Premier League, in particular against Weston’s 96 Pre-Academy team.”

players and no players born in 1995 who would be eligible to play in this age group.Both clubs have made the commitment to adjusting to the Development Academy’s calendar age grouping to better prepare the top players for their transition to the Academy system.

The 96 Pre-Academy team finished first in the Premier group in the Early Season with an overall record of 7-1-2. It was a season-long dominating performance as they outscored opponents 26 to 6. The goals came from all directions as 11 different players put the ball in the back of the net. The players that stood out offensively were Deivin Osavas with 5 goals, and both Juan Diaz and Eli Medder with 4 goals apiece. The biggest factor in the team’s success was its stingy defense. The defense, led by center back Casey Quintero and goalkeepers Tomas Espinal and Bryan Alvarez, had an impressive 5 clean sheets and a goals allowed average of .6.

The 96 Pre-Academy boys enjoyed their early season success, but will now switch their focus over to tournament play as they will be competing in the prestigious CASL Shootout in Raleigh, NC.

Joining the U13B White and 96 Pre-Academy teams in the Late Season Playoffs will also be the 97 Pre-Academy team, which played in the U15 Premier group, and the U17B White and U18B White teams, which also played in their respective Premier groups.

The 97 Pre-Academy finished third in a very competitive U15 Premier age group with a 4-3-3 record and was only one of two teams to post a positive goal differential for the season. The U17B White also finished third with a 4-3-2 mark and the U18B White wrapped up the season with a 2-1-5 record in fourth place.

Ethan Spivack scored a goal in Kendall’s victory over the Concorde Fire, which started a weekend sweep for the Miami-based club.

By Lem Satterfield, ESPNHS.com;October 5, 2011 - There was little reason to believe that Kendall SC’s under-15/16 squad was in for a breakout weekend in U.S. Soccer Development Academy Soccer action.

Coming off of last year’s fourth-place finish in the eight-team Atlantic Division of the Southeast Conference, Kendall SC already winless at 0-1-1, having been outscored 3-2 in its first couple of outtings.

In addition, the Miami-based program was scheduled for two difficult conference games against the returning division winning Concorde Fire and the Birmingham United.

"The previous weekend, we just hadn’t played our best. We didn’t play as a team. So we spoke about it as a team, and we worked really hard in practice," said defender Ricardo Gomez, a 16-year-old junior.

"We figured that with the hard work and the dedication that we showed in practice, that hopefully, that would pay off," Gomez said. "We fixed all of the arguments that we had been having. We figured that if we played well as a team, that would get us a win this weekend."

Gomez was right as it turned out as Kendall SC maximized its offensive production in shutouts of 2-0 and 3-0 over the Concorde Fire and the Birmingham United on Saturday and Sunday.

Striker Sergio Lujan scored twice with one assist, midfielder Renato Punyed contributed two goals, and striker Ethan Spivack scored once for Kendall SC.

Lou Diego, Jorge Torress and Luis Hernandez-Ysasi also had assists for Kendall SC, which improved its mark to a division-leading 2-0 and its overall record to 2-1-1.

Kendall SC is tied with South Carolina United Academy (2-0, 4-0) on top of the division.

"We were disappointed with our previous weekend in Richmond. I felt for a lot of our boys, it was new to them. They didn’t realize what it takes to get a good result at this level in these games," coach Luichi Gonzalez said.

"These families sacrifice a lot for these kids to be a part of this league, and we make it work. But as far as their play, it’s just a matter of them being young," Gonzalez said. "Now they realize that they didn’t take advantage of that first weekend. But I think that this weekend, they’ve sent a message in our conference."

Gomez, Hernandez-Ysasi, Andres Alfonso and Reynaldo Madiedo played well defensively in front of goalies Damien Lewis and Francisco Tomasino.

"We knew that we had a good team, one that was good enough to compete and win the conference," Gomez said. "We just had to go in and go after every ball and every play and play as if the game was zero-zero."

Against the Fire, Punyed converted a free kick for a 1-0 lead in the 32nd minute before Spivack converted a pass from Diego in the 60th.

"Concorde came in and they were confident because of the results from the last weekend," Gomez said. "But we played our game. We touched the ball, and the hard training that we put in finally paid off."

That intensity carried over into the United game, where Lujan converted off of a pass from Torres in just the third minute.

Lujan then found Punyed to make it 2-0 in the 28th minute. Lujan scored, yet again, for a 3-0 lead off an assist from Hernandez-Ysasi in the 51st.

"We knew that we hadn’t had a good weekend, and we knew after the game with Concorde that we needed to stay humble and to play just as hard in the next game. We didn’t come out cocky," Alfonso said.

"It was chemistry, and our chemistry isn’t just about coming out and playing hard, he said. "We talk about what happens with each other throughout the day. So that builds up the chemistry between us. So that’s were we got to know each other better and we came out and played like a family."

SOUTHEAST PRE-ACADEMY LEAGUE AND FLORIDA PREMIER LEAGUE HOLD COMBINED FALL SCOUTING SHOWCASE

September 28, 2011 - Featuring the opportunity to play in front of scouts from both the U.S. Soccer Federation and US Club Soccer’s id² Program, teams from 12 different clubs came together Sept. 24-25 at Patton Park in Jacksonville, Fla., for the Southeast Pre-Academy League/Florida Premier League Fall Scouting Showcase. Participating for Kendall SC was the 97 Pre-Academy team that is coached by Luis Calix. They faced off against opponents from two South Conference US Soccer Development Academy teams - South Carolina United Battery and Charlotte Soccer Academy.

Despite officially being the first weekend of fall, warm and humid weather conditions greeted the teams in Jacksonville. However, the players and fields each held up well as the weekend featured a very high level of play from the teams.

Scouting the event for the U.S. Soccer Federation was staff coach Juan Carlos Michia. U.S. Soccer Technical Staff and US Club Soccer id² Program Staff are on-site at each NPL Fall Scouting Showcase to scout and identify players for potential participation in upcoming id² Program Training Camps and Player Development Programs, as well as a variety of U.S. Soccer programs.

Based on their performances in Jacksonville, a total of seven players were extended invitations to take part in upcoming id² Program Training Camps in Zarephath, N.J., and Frisco, Texas. Based on their performance durign the Fall Showcase, four Kendall SC members - Andy Alvarez, Eduardo Ferrara, Gabriel Osorio and Iñigo Sagarduy were invited to take part in the U.S. Soccer Training Center in Plantation on September 27.

The focus for both the Southeast Pre-Academy League and Florida Premier League will now shift to the regular season, as teams begin the road towards the NPL Champions Cup. Slated for July 27-30, 2012, the NPL Champions Cup will feature winners of every NPL competing against each other for NPL national championships.

U18 DEVELOPMENT ACADEMY TEAM PREPS FOR NEW SEASON

September 22, 2011 – Kendall SC’s U.S. Soccer Development Academy teams will travel to Virginia this weekend to kick off league play against Virginia Rush AJ Auxerre and Richmond Kickers. Leading up to the season opener, Matias Asorey, coach of the U18 team, has been prepping his squad with practice games against the likes of Barry University’s men’s soccer team and last year’s Copa Latina finalists, Blue Star Honduras in order to get the team ready for the rigors of the Development Academy season.

Although the U18 team lost both matches, they showed their mettle against more experienced competition, dropping a 0-3 decision to Barry and a 2-4 result to Blue Star Honduras, and they gained valuable lessons from both encounters.

The team features several returning members from last year’s U18 team, including goalkeeper Jack Hubbard, defenders Daniel Cortez and Scott Hill, forward Ivan Shapiro, and developmental roster players, Alejandro Martinez and Lyle Lindquist. Several players also graduated from last year’s U16 Development Academy team to the senior squad, including Daniel Gonzalez, who spent part of the summer training with Chelsea FC in London, Nahuel Medina, Sergio Licona, Randy Lavaire, Bryan Ruiz-Unger, and Martin Agredo.

But the most important addition to the team may well be Alessandro Mion, who is returning to the club where he started his youth soccer career before spending the last year and a half in the Residency Program of the US U17 youth national team. He is fresh of an appearance at the U17 World Cup and ready to make his mark in the Development Academy.

The U.S. Soccer Development Academy kicked off its fifth season in earnest on Saturday, Sept. 17, as teams from the West, Central and South conferences took to the field to play 50 games over the course of the weekend.

Four teams from the South Conference unofficially kicked off the season the prior weekend, playing eight games in two age groups on Saturday, Sept. 10, and Sunday, Sept. 11.

“We move into a new year where everyone is looking to improve on the one before, and that’s always the case,” said U.S. Soccer Youth Technical Director Claudio Reyna. “It’s exciting for our staff, our Technical Advisors to start working with the teams shortly and hopefully they can improve from last year.”

Georgia United and Vancouver Whitecaps will both make their on-field debut as Academy clubs and several teams will initiate a 10-month season that will spread matches out throughout the year. Vancouver hosted Real Salt Lake AZ in their first Academy match, which was played in Seattle, while Georgia United hosted Virginia Rush AJ Auxerre in the club’s first Academy game.

The SoCal Division in particular is undergoing significant restructuring. All teams are moving to a 10-month season with the exception of San Diego Surf. During the off-season, Cosmos Academy West merged with Chivas USA. The MLS-affiliate now counts on the services of 2011 West Conference Starting XI Coach of the Year Dan Calichman leading the U-17/18 squad, and 2011 Development Academy U-15/16 Coach of the Year Mike Muñoz leading the younger age group.

“The clubs that are going to a 10-month season is the most important change,” said Reyna. “Planning for a 10-month season is something new for them, but will provide the players more time to train which is important for their development. Around the world, kids at the U-15/16 and U-17/18 age level play for 10 months and they train more than our kids, so this helps us close that gap. It’s an exciting move for the Academy clubs to commit more overall hours to this environment.”

Southern California is also home to the defending Academy champions, as both the U-15/16 LA Galaxy and U-17/18 Pateadores look to continue with the programming that led their teams to the championship matches at 2011 Finals Week. The West Conference teams will ease into the season, facing off against conference opponents before playing in divisional matches.

Pateadores will initiate the defense of their title against Cal Odyssey while the LA Galaxy kicks off against De Anza Force. In the younger age group, Real So Cal will play its first match against the Seattle Sounders since falling 2-1 to the Washington-based team at 2011 Finals Week.

In the Texas Division, only Texas Rush did not play in the first weekend of the new season, with the remaining eight teams kicking off across the division. The Texas Division is also switching to a 10-month season, spreading out games and training throughout the course of the year. At FC Dallas, 2011 Central Conference Starting XI Coach of the Year Oscar Pareja will continue to build on the U-17/18 team’s success after finishing in second place at 2011 Finals Week. Pareja will be followed closely by the Dallas Texans, who had a team in both age groups at the Finals Week in Milwaukee.

U18B WHITE PUNCH THEIR TICKET TO THE DISNEY SHOWCASE

September 7, 2011 – Kendall SC’s U18B White put in a commanding defensive performance in winning its bracket at the Disney Showcase Qualifier, allowing only one goal over the course of five undefeated matches. With the title, the team secured a direct invitation to the Showcase group at the Disney Soccer Showcase in December, where they will have the opportunity to display their talent against top competition in front of college coaches from around the country at a critical point in their recruiting process.

Luis Calix’ U18B White team started off group play on a high note with a 2-0 win over Florida’s #9-ranked FC United of Florida before having to face off against Georgia’s Darlington Soccer Academy. In what would turn out to be their toughest contest of the weekend, the two teams battled to a scoreless tie. With Kendall SC holding the goal differential margin over Darlington they held off Florida’s #7-ranked Fusion FC Blue 2-1 to finish atop the group.

In the semifinal Kendall SC faced off against Brandon Flames. They took the early lead, but could not shake off Brandon until the final seconds when Patrick Lopez slotted a long shot over the head of the Brandon goalkeeper, who had left the goalmouth open to join the attack. The Final would pit Kendall SC in a rematch against Darlington SA. With Kendall nursing a 1-0 lead and three minutes left in the game, lighting struck and the match had to be stopped for 30 minutes. When the teams retook the pitch, Darlington mounted a furious charge and it took two clutch saves by Cody Nuñez to seal the victory and clinch the championship.

Kendall SC’s U18B White - Disney Showcase Qualifier Champions

With the entry of the U18B White into the tournament, Kendall SC is guaranteed to have at least four teams playing in the Disney Showcase in December. They will be joined by the U16 and U18 US Soccer Development Academy teams that will be playing in the special USSDA brackets against other Development Academy clubs, and the 97 Pre’Academy team that will also be playing in a special bracket created for U14 teams (’97s) of Development Academy clubs that participate in one of the NPL’s Pre-Academy leagues.

Also participating in the Qualifier and still awaiting word on their acceptance to the Showcase are the 96 Pre-Academy team and the U17B White.

The 96 Pre-Academy team, playing with its new make-up for the first time in a tournament, played in the U16 age bracket. The team consists of a core of U16 players from last season U15 state semifinalists plus some members of the former U14B White and key additions from Final Four teams of other Miami clubs that last year played in the U14 or U15 age groups. After leading off with a 1-0 victory over South Georgia United, the team let its guard down and surrendered a tie to Coral Springs United Green. Needing at least a tie to advance, Kendall SC could not solve Florida’s #7-ranked West Florida Premier and lost the decision 0-1.

Another team that went into the tournament with a completely reconstituted roster was the U17B White and Julio Perdomo’s fresh troops had to face off against some top notch competition in the group stage. They surrendered a 1-3 loss to perennial State Cup contender, Belleview United, and bounced back with a 2-1 win over CFK Kraze Black. Needing a strong performance against Florida’s #2-ranked Team Boca White, the boys almost pulled it off but still fell short of the goal in a 1-2 loss. Nonetheless the tournament served as a good staging ground for the new team and bodes well for the months to come.

May 28, 2011 - Three members of Kendall SC received the highest honors bestowed by the Miami Herald for their participation in High School soccer during the 2010-2011 season. Alvaro Acosta, a member of Kendall SC’s U18 Academy team and the Felix Varela Senior High School soccer team, was honored with the La Ley Outstanding Boys Senior among all sports for the Winter Season, while Alec Spivakc and Mauricio Valderruten received respectively the award for Girls and Boys Girls Soccer 6A-5A Player of the Year. Alec played for Kendall SC’s U18G White and Palmetto Senior High School teams, while Mauricio played for the U18 Academy team and the John A. Ferguson Senior High School team.

U15B WHITE BOUND FOR STATE CUP FINAL FOUR

May 20, 2011 – After a rousing State Cup quarterfinal win over Florida’s #1-ranked U15 team, West Pines United, Kendall SC’s U15B White are headed to Auburndale where tomorrow they will face IMG Academy to vie for the opportunity to compete for the State Championship in Sunday’s Final. The boys coached by Julio Perdomo where the only one of Kendall SC’s six Round of 16 Qualifiers to advance to the Final Four, although the U18G White made it to the Quarterfinals for the third year in a row and the U16B White also fell one win shy of the state semifinals.

The U15B White made it to the State Cup Final 4 by defeating Weston FC’s ’96 Pre-Academy team in the Round of 16 and then capping of the Challenge Round weekend with a stirring 1-0 upset over West Pines United in the Quarterfinals.

On Saturday morning Kendall faced off versus Weston’s ‘96 Pre-Academy in a game that would be determent by the minimum goal differential and was marked by stingy defense. 20 minutes into the first half, forward Mark Verwaay found the ball in front of him on a pass from teammate Jonathan Diaz. Once Mark got the ball there was no looking back, with perfect execution he beat the keeper and the ball was in the net. Kendall’s defense held its ground and the game ended 1-0.

The next day Kendall SC met West Pines United, the top team in the state. A strong defensive effort and adept goalkeeping by Brian Alvarez allowed Kendall to hang on to a 0-0 score deep into the second half. With 5 minutes left in regulation, defender and Captain Carlos Galvez made a perfectly placed pass to forward Jonathan Diaz who was then able to beat the keeper slot the ball into the back of the net. When the final whistle blew, Kendall had made it the State Final 4 and a wild celebration ensued.

The previous Thursday, on the last practice before the trip, Coach Julio Perdomo had promised the boys that he would shave off his hair if they came back victorious from the weekend, a promise that he would be forced to keep. The following Monday the boys met up with Coach Julio at Blades barber shop for his hair appointment and Julio walked out several ounces lighter. The game against IMG Academy on May 21 kicks off at 4:30 PM. Best of luck to the U15 Boys in Auburndale.

Falling short of the Final Four goal in the Challenge Round where the U18G White, who defeated Space Coast United Storm 2-1 in the Round of 16 only to lose to Clearwater Chargers 0-2 in the quarterfinals. On the boys side, the U16B White/’95 Pre-Academy had the upper hand in a rematch of last season’s state semifinal when they defeated Team Boca White 1-0, but the boys came out flat against Weston’s 95 Pre-Academy and dropped a 0-3 decision in the quarterfinals.

Bowing out in the Round of 16, were the U13B White, who lost 0-3 to Clearwater Chargers; the U18B White who lost 2-3 to Florida Spirit of ’93 in overtime; and the U18B Blue, who lost to cross-town rival, SAA Real Madrid by a 0-1 score in a game marred by ejections from both teams.

KENDALL SC TEAMS TO PLAY IN THE NPL SOUTHEAST PRE-ACADEMY LEAGUE

May 11, 2011 – Four new clubs from the U.S. Soccer Development Academy have been added to the Southeast Pre-Academy League for the inaugural 2011-12 season. Clearwater Chargers, IMG Soccer Academy, Kendall SC and Weston FC will form the Florida Division of the Southeast Pre-Academy League, part of US Club Soccer’s National Premier Leagues (NPL).

The addition of the four U.S. Soccer Development Academy clubs from Florida further strengthens the quality of the Southeast Pre-Academy League, which will now include nearly every Development Academy club in the region.

The Florida Division, along with the Northern, Western, and Carolinas Divisions, will make up the Southeast Pre-Academy League. The Southeast Pre-Academy League will kick off in September 2011 and participating teams will play up to 18 total regular-season games over the fall and spring season, depending on their divisional placement.

The Southeast Pre-Academy League will include the U-14 boys’ age group for the 2011-12 season. In addition to this age group, the clubs in the Florida Division will also be playing intra-division games at the U-15 boys’ age group in 2011-12.

The Southeast Pre-Academy League champions, determined in a post-season playoff event in May 2012, will compete at the inaugural National Premier Leagues Champions Cup in July 2012.

"This league will give us the chance to keep developing our young players,” said Weston FC U.S. Soccer Development Academy Program Director Marcelo Neveleff. “Emulating what the full-time academy players do will better prepare our players for the future. Weston FC is really looking forward to providing this program for our young athletes. It is a step in the right direction in soccer in our country and we’re proud to be part of it."

“Implementing Pre-Academy teams allows us to institute a training environment that mirrors that of the Development Academy program at a younger age, grouping players from the same birth year that are likely to advance together into the senior teams,” said Matias Asorey, Co-Director of Kendall SC’s Development Academy Program. “Creating the Pre-Academy league now permits us to expose these players to a higher level of competition playing against peer clubs in our region.”

About the National Premier Leagues (NPL):

The NPL offers a platform for long-term player development by providing consistent and meaningful games between the region’s top players and also provides opportunities for players to be scouted by U.S. Soccer national staff. Winners of each league within the NPL will qualify for US Club Soccer’s National Premier Leagues Champions Cup.

The NPL now includes eight leagues across the country: the Florida Premier League, the Midwest Developmental League, the NorCal Premier League, the Northeast Pre-Academy League, the Northern Illinois Soccer League, the Oregon Premier League, the Southeast Pre-Academy League and the Texas Pre-Academy League.

The NPL is an important component of US Club Soccer’s 10-year vision to refine the landscape for competitive youth soccer. The vision recognizes that:

• Properly-structured youth soccer clubs are the vehicle through which player development does and must occur in the United States.
• Clubs should play in leagues that provide meaningful games, allow establishment of the proper training-to-game ratio, and eliminate calendar congestion.
• National Premier Leagues, as well as the best clubs, should be integrated in US Club Soccer’s id² national identification and development program, include Player Development Programs in select local markets, and work closely with U.S. Soccer staff regarding player identification, and player and coach development.

KENDALL SC NAMES YANEASH DONALDSON DIRECTOR OF GIRLS SOCCER PROGRAM

May 2, 2011 – Kendall SC announced today that Yaneash Donaldson, who served as First Women’s Assistant Coach at Florida International University from 2008 to 2010, has joined the organization as Director of the Girls Soccer Program. Ms. Donaldson, who holds a Masters Degree in Physical Education: Sports Fitness from FIU, was previously Assistant Coach for the women’s soccer team at Colorado School of Mines, a NCAA Division II program.

In addition to her experience at the collegiate level, Ms. Donaldson worked more than five years at the youth level with the Real Colorado Soccer Club, a member club of the US Soccer Development Academy. She played collegiately at Clemson University, where her team made two NCAA tournament appearances, and at FIU, where she was named team captain during the 2005 season.

At Kendall SC, Ms. Donaldson will oversee the implementation of the new U.S. Soccer curriculum across all girls age groups and will establish a Youth Training Academy to focus on introducing age-appropriate skills training to girls under the age of 10 so that they can progress into a competitive soccer environment.

U.S. SOCCER COACHING CURRICULUM PRESENTED AT NIKE INTERNATIONAL HEADQUARTERS

April 21, 2011 - U.S. Soccer Youth Technical Director Claudio Reyna presented the new U.S. Soccer Coaching Curriculum to more than 150 of the top youth leaders in the U.S. Soccer community on Wednesday during the U.S. Soccer + SPARQ Player Development Summit . Reyna outlined key concepts of the new curriculum designed to improve development of players in the organized player base in the United States. Present at the meeting on behalf of Kendall SC was Chris Rich, head coach of the ’95 Pre-Academy team and assistant coach of the U16 and U18 Development Academy teams.

The curriculum concentrates on creating more organized, age-appropriate training sessions, developing coaching practices and creating an environment that is fun for players. As a member club of the U.S. Soccer Development Academy, Kendall SC will be required to implement the curriculum across its entire program from ages U6 through U18.

“Emphasizing proper coaching and training is critical for our ability to produce elite players and raise the level of play in this country overall,” said Reyna, a former Men’s National Team captain and veteran of four FIFA World Cups. “We have created this curriculum to serve as a blueprint for the thousands of coaches across the country working with young players at an important time in their development.”

Attendees at the Summit participated in lectures and field sessions led by international and domestic soccer experts, as well as experts in non-soccer fields who discussed the best ways to develop success. After participating in the summit, these elite youth coaches and technical directors will be armed with the tools to disseminate key messages and areas of focus to their respective communities.

The presentation of the curriculum is another major step in the implementation of the framework developed by the Player Development Task Force, which was created in 2006 to review all aspects of player development in the United States and recommend a course of action. The curriculum was developed by Dr. Javier Perez PhD, who was a head coach in the youth system of Real Madrid F.C. from 2001 through 2007 and worked at the Spanish Soccer Federation designing and planning its Master for Coaches and Master for Fitness Coaches program.

The curriculum builds on the successful launch and growth of the U.S. Soccer Development Academy, which will hold its annual meeting on April 21 during the summit. Initiated in the fall of 2007 after a detailed review of player development systems in the U.S. and across the world, the Development Academy provides players, coaches and referees a nationally-coordinated program designed to enhance their development environment.

The Academy has improved the training environment; provided relevant, high-level matches on a consistent basis; increased the level and efficiency of scouting for the national teams and provided players, coaches and referees with more structured programming.

April 20, 2010 – 64 members of Kendall SC teams – more than a third of the club’s high school age members - were honored last week by being named to the High School All-County teams for Miami-Dade and Broward Counties, exceeding by two the number of members chosen last year. The selections include 11 boys and 6 girls that were named to first team slots, and 47 percent of all the boys selected in Class 6A-5A in Miami-Dade County are current members of Kendall SC. SIX KENDALL SC TEAMS ADVANCE TO STATE CUP ROUND OF 16

April 12, 2011 – Six of Kendall SC’s nine teams participating in the FYSA State Cup advanced to the Challenge Round of 16 and will continue vying for the premier state championship in their respective age groups. The five boys teams advancing to the next phase of the competition are the second most of any club behind fellow US Soccer Development Academy club Weston FC. Leading the way for Kendall SC are the U18G White, U18B White, U15B White and U13B White, all of who qualified out of the First Preliminary Round. They are joined by the U18B Blue and U16B White, who advanced after winning their groups in the Second Preliminary Round.

The U15B White was the only Kendall SC team that completed the First Round undefeated and untied. They started off with consecutive shutouts over Cutler Ridge Fury White (3-0) and Tarpon FC (1-0), and follow that up with a 3-1 victory over Florida Rush Swoosh to secure first place in the group. They will play the Weston FC 96 Pre-Academy team in the Round of 16 on April 30. A win would pit them in the quarterfinals against the winner of the game between HC United Red and West Pines United Black, the #1-ranked team in the state.

The U18B White and U18G White both find themselves in familiar territory after having reached the State Cup quarterfinals the past two years. The U18B White advanced directly out of the first round after going undefeated in three games: wins over Central Pasco United (3-0) and ACYS Spirit Santos (1-0), and a 0-0 tie with Creeks Athletic. The U18B White will play Florida Spirit of ’93, who they defeated 3-1 when they met previously in the final of the Tampa Bay Sun Bowl. A victory would pit them against the winner of Team Boca White and Coral Springs Storm.

Meanwhile the U18G White only needed a 2-0 win over HC United Black and a 1-1 tie versus Florida Rush Swoosh to advance directly to the Round of 16. On April 30 they will play Space Coast United Storm Elite. If they win, they will face a date with the winner of the game between Clearwater Chargers and Team Boca White 2, last year’s state semifinalists.

The U13B White, playing in their first ever State Cup, finished second in their group but still advanced directly. A 2-1 win over #8-ranked First Coast Kyx Blue and 1-1 ties versus their other two opponents, Largo United Red and Brandon FC Blue. In the Round of 16 they will face a tough challenger in #2-ranked Clearwater Chargers Premier. A win would have them facing the winner of the Coral Gables Toros and Tarpon FC White matchup.

The U18B Blue and U16B White ’95 Pre-Academy teams both needed a visit to the Second Round in order to qualify for the Challenge Round of 16. In the first round the U18B Blue led off with a 1-0 win over RSL Florida, but followed that up with a 0-2 loss to Weston Fury Premier. Needing at least a tie in their third game in order to advance, they got just that as they held FC America Premier to a 2-2 result. In the Second Round, Kendall SC left no doubt of the result. They set the tone with a 5-0 win over two-time state semifinalist Fusion FC Blue, and followed that up with a 4-3 win over Ormond Beach Apollo and a 3-2 victory over ACYS Spirit Santos to close out the group in first place. They next face archrival SAA-Real Madrid. The winner will meet up with the victor of the Mako United and Fusion FC Blue game.

The U16B White ’95 Pre-Academy had the misfortune of drawing the defending state champions, HC United Red, in their group for the first round of State Cup, but still did just enough to keep their hopes alive in the second round. Last year the then Kendall SC U15B White lost in the State Cup championship to HCU Red, but the current roster is much changed from back then, with 10 team members now on the U16 Academy team and the U17B White, and 70% of the roster composed of U15-aged players that are playing up one year.

The ‘95 boys made their road more difficult when they tied Leg-AZ Caymans 2-2 in the first game in group play. They held their own against HC United Red, losing only 0-1 in a tight contest, but were left going into the third game needing Leg-AZ to lose to the state champions while they had to defeat Warner ASG by a large goal differential. Kendall SC took matters into their own hands, beating Warner ASG 4-0. Combined with a Leg-AZ loss, Kendall SC held a two goal differential and advanced to the Second Round where they faced Jacksonville United and Bonita Springs Storm. This time around they would not leave room for error, winning both games by a 1-0 margin and setting up a date with Team Boca White on April, 30 in a rematch of last year’s State Cup Semifinal. The winner will face the winner of the game between Weston FC ’95 Pre-Academy and Strictly Soccer Select in the Quarterfinals.

The three other Kendall SC teams that competed in the first round of State Cup kept their hopes alive until the last game but each saw their goal come undone. The U17B White tied Jacksonville United 4-4 in their first game and followed that up with a 1-0 victory over Fusion FC Blue. A win or a tie versus FC Sarasota Blue would have given Kendall SC a berth in at least the second round, but the offense deserted Jairo Ossa’s boys and the dropped out with a 0-3 loss. After tying West Florida Premier Gold 0-0 and defeating Florida Rush Nike 3-0, the U16G White just needed to tie last year’s semifinalists, Wellington SC Wave, to advance, but after a hard fought game they came up short in a 0-1 result. The U14B White dug themselves a hole with an unfortunate 0-1 loss to Florida Rush Nike in the first game. They bounced back with a 1-1 tie with West Florida Premier Elite, but needed to not only win their last game, but also have West Florida Premier to lose to Florida Rush. Kendall SC completed its part of the deal, defeating HC United Red 1-0, but the other two teams played to a 1-1 draw, leaving the U14 boys out of the dance.

U13G WHITE WINS REGION A CUP TITLE

April 4, 2011 – Kendall SC’s U13G White qualified for the Florida President’s Cup after winning the FYSA Region A Cup Division 1 with an impenetrable defensive effort that allowed only one goal in 5 matches. In other Kendall SC action, the U12B White had their hopes of a championship dashed as they lost in the Division 1 Cup Final, while the U15G White and the U12B Blue made it to the Semifinals in their respective divisions.

Richard Perdomo’s preparation paid off in the preliminary round of the Region A Cup as the U13G White kicked of the competition with three consecutive shutouts defeating Pinecrest Premier White (2-0), West Pines United Gold (2-0), and South Kendall Sunblazer Gold (3-0). In the Semifinal, Boynton Beach Knights were finally able to break the Kendall SC defense, but the girls struck back with two goals to earn a 2-1 decision and set up a Finals matchup against Cooper City Cobras Premier. In the Final Kendall SC produced another shutout and emerged victorious by a score of 1-0 winning a berth in the FYSA President’s Cup. Unfortunately, their dream of a state championship was cut short in the President’s Cup semifinal. Kendall SC finally met their match, losing 0-2 to the eventual champion, Florida Revolution. In the consolation game, they bounced back with a 1-0 win over Dallas Texans Florida to finish their season on a positive note. For the U12B White, President’s Cup ended with a bittersweet feeling. They started off with a stellar first round showing in their Division 1 group, allowing only one goal in wins over Doral United SC (5-1), Miami Lakes SC (2-0), and Kicks SC Black (4-0). A 3-2 semifinal victory over West Pines United Black set up a showdown in the Final against crosstown rival SAA-Real Madrid. A thrilling match would ensue, but the Kendall SC boys fell a goal shy of their objective, losing 0-1. No doubt they were disappointed by the result, but they can look forward with optimism towards next season after demonstrating they are among the top teams in the state. Their counterparts, the U12B Blue, also had a solid showing in their Region A Cup bracket. Three wins in the first round assured them of first place in their group. They defeated West Pines United White 4-1, Cutler Ridge Fury White 2-1, and Ives Estates 4-0. The road to the Final in Division 2 would be a long one, starting first with a Challenge Round of 16. Kendall SC first faced off against Pinecrest Premier Grey, earning a 2-0 victory to advance to the Quarterfinals where they defeated Soccer Paradise in another 2-0 shutout. Kendall SC’s run would end in the Semifinal in a 2-4 loss to Margate Mutiny, but no doubt the U12B Blue will look back with pride at their accomplishments during the 2010-2011 season.

The U15G White also entered the Division 1 Region A Cup with dreams of a championship. They faced strong competition in the first round, and after tying South Kendall Soccer Sunblazer Gold 1-1 in the first match, they delivered wins over West Pines United Gold (2-1) and Pinecrest Premier White (2-0) to qualify for the semifinals. But the Renegades Ladies Green would prove too much for Kendall SC as the girls were stopped short in a 1-4 defeat.

A LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN - SFUYSA LATE SEASON

March 23, 2011 – Kendall SC’s older boys teams had an unprecedented accomplishment when all the teams reached the Championship game in every age group that was disputed first in the SFUYSA Early Season and then in the Late Season playoffs. Out of more than 100 teams combined that competed in the Early Season in the U15 – U18/19 categories, 5 of the final 8 teams were from Kendall SC. The U18B Blue defeated their counterpart U18B White to win the U18/U19 category, while the U15B White walked away with the title after having won the Regular Season championship just a few weeks earlier.

The U15B White extended their undefeated streak in league and playoff play to 20 matches when they won all three Late Season games over Cooper City Cobras (3-0), Cutler Ridge Fury White (6-4) and Weston FC Pre-Academy (5-4) to qualify for the Semifinals. In the semifinal they would face Kendall Hammocks Optimist in a rematch of the Regular Season Final that was settled by penalty kicks. This time around Kendall SC came out with a bit more attitude and when the final whistle blew the score was 6-1 Kendall SC. The only team left standing between Kendall SC and another trophy was Cooper City Cobras. Ten minutes into the first half of the championship game Kendall SC fell behind 0-1. But minutes later, a great play by forward Juan Diaz evened the score. The second half turned into chess match with neither defense breaking. With 15 minutes left, midfielder Jonathan Diaz sealed the deal with a left shot that found the back of the net. Kendall SC finished with a 2-1 victory and the boys doubled their Championship trophy count for the year.
	Kendall SC U15B White: SFUYSA Early/Late Season Champions
Kendall SC’s two U18 boys teams appeared destined for a showdown in the Final since day one. In the Early Season the U18B White team placed first in the Premier Group and the U18B Blue placed first in the A Group with a combined record of 16-1-3. In the Late Season playoffs they were placed in the same group, but still emerged in the first two spots to earn a berth in the Semifinals. The U18B White had the better of the group, with wins over Lee County Strikers (2-1) and Weston FC U18 Premier (4-0), but they couldn’t solve the U18B Blue team, losing 2-3 in a game that would presage the Final. Meanwhile the U18B Blue held both Lee County Strikers and Weston FC U18 Premier to scoreless ties, earning enough points to edge into second place. Both Kendall SC teams would win their semifinal matches, with the U18B White besting SAA Real Madrid Castilla and the U18B Blue defeating Team Boca White, setting up the much awaited intra-club rematch in the Final. Coach Luis Calix would let each team captain manage the squads in the deciding game and the U18B Blue emerged victorious once again by a 3-1 margin.
	Kendall SC U17B White: SFUYSA Early/Late Season Finalists
The U16B White Pre-Academy team emerged from the Late Season playoffs in first place in its group. After splitting their first two games - a 3-0 win over Pinecrest Premier Blue and a 0-2 loss to Miami Stars CSO – Kendall SC came up big in a 2-0 win over then-undefeated Wellington Wave to qualify for the Semifinals. In the first elimination game the U16B White avenged an earlier loss to Boca United with a rousing 2-1 victory, but in the Final, Wellington Wave would exact revenge as Kendall SC came up short of its objective in a 1-2 loss. The U17B White continued its impressive turnaround in the Late Season Playoffs. After starting the Early season with four consecutive losses Kendall SC went undefeated in the next nine games, including three wins in the Late Season over Renegades (8-0), Royal Palm Beach Strikers (2-0) and Cape Coral Cyclones (2-1). In the Semifinal Kendall SC overcame a furious counterattack by long-time rival Weston FC Premier to claim the victory 3-2 and a chance to match up yet again with Cape Coal Cyclones. In three prior meetings this season the teams had split evenly with one win, one tie and one loss, and two goals scored each between the three games. So it was no surprise when the Final finished tied 1-1 after

regulation and two overtimes. It was only until the 11^th round of penalty kicks that Kendall SC finally faltered and Cape Coral earned the title by the narrowest of margins.

KENDALL SC SUPER Y-LEAGUE TRYOUTS SCHEDULED FOR APRIL 9 & 10 AND MAY 7 & 8

March 8, 2011 - Kendall SC announced today that the club will field teams for the 2011 Super Y-league season in the U12, U13, U14, and U15 boys age groups. Tryouts will be held on April 9 and 10 and May 7 and 8 as indicated in the table below. The U12 age group will play 11 v. 11 to prepare for U13 competition in the coming seasonal year. Matches will take place in June, July and August with all games held in South and Central Florida.

Kendall SC teams play in the Southeast Division against teams from the following Florida youth soccer clubs: Brandon FC, Chicago Fire Juniors - Florida, FC United of Florida, Florida Soccer Alliance, Kicks Soccer Club, Tampa Bay Premier, West Pines United, and Weston FC. We will be looking for premier boys soccer players who want to remain active at a high level of competitive soccer playing accross the state of Florida during the summer months. Any player affiliated with another FYSA club can retain that affiliation while trying out and playing with a Super Y-League club.

Fees for Kendall Sc members are $240, including a $120 registration and training fees of $60 each for June and July. Fees for non-members are $300, including $180 registration. Financial assistance is available for Kendall SC members who qualified for financial aid during the 2010-2011 season.

U9B WHITE WIN WESTON CUP PREMIER CHAMPIONSHIP

February 26, 2011 – Kendall SC’s U9B White claimed their first tournament championship ever when they won the U9 Premier title at the 2011 Weston Cup over President’s Day weekend. Two other Kendall SC boys teams, the U9B Blue and U12B White, had strong showings reaching the Final in the U9 Challenge and U12 Premier groups respectively.

The U9B White suffered a setback in their first match of the tournament, losing 2-3 to Ft. Lauderdale Select, but the experience would serve them well in the end. On the following day, Kendall SC bounced back with wins over Weston FC Intermilan (4-3) and Key Biscayne Soccer Club (6-2) to earn a rematch against Ft. Lauderdale Select. The Final would tell a different story as Kendall SC avenged the earlier defeat with a 4-2 victory to win the championship.

The U9B Blue, which is also trained by Pablo Podgaetz, rose to the occasion after a first game loss to Kick Black (4-5), winning their next two matches over Davie United Fireballs (8-0) and Davie United Horntails (2-1) to qualify for the Final. However, West Pines United proved too much in the deciding match, as Kendall SC failed to score in a 0-4 loss.

The U12B White went undefeated in the preliminary round, winning matches over Weston FC Nike (4-1), Parkland Predators (2-1) and West Pines United Black (3-1). They met up with the also undefeated Chicago Fire Juniors in the Final and fought down to the wire, but could not emerge victorious in a 1-2 loss.

KENDALL SC GIRLS SHOW THEIR METTLE IN PRESIDENT’S DAY TOURNAMENTS

February 25, 2011 – Kendall SC’s U13G White added a championship trophy to their already solid performance this season when they won the Classic Red title at the Weston Cup over President’s Day weekend. Tight on their heels were the U16G White, who reached the semifinals of the Score of the Shore tournament in Tampa.

The U13G White, coached by Richard Perdomo, started off with a 1-1 tie against Boca United in a crossover group game, but produced consecutive 1-0 shutouts over Weston FC 98/99 Premier and Plantation Eagles FC 98/99. With first place in their group firmly in hand they set out for the rematch against Boca United in the final and this time emerged victorious to claim the championship.

In Tampa, the U16G White started out with a convincing 5-1 win over Tennessee’s Mid South FC Blue, but in a hard-fought contest against Miami Lakes a late goal broke the opponents way and Kendall was faced with potential elimination in the first round. A 3-0 shutout of Weston FC Premier combined with a Miami Lakes loss to Mid South propelled Kendall SC into the quarterfinals as the group winner.

In the quarters Kendall SC controlled Maryland’s 9^th-ranked DC Stoddert Edge to produce a 2-0 win, but the next morning a rugged Space Coast United Storm team shut down Kendall’s attack in the semifinal to preserve the lead after an early goal and dash the hopes of Denise Brolly’s girls.

KENDALL SC WALKS AWAY WITH TWO CHAMPIONSHIPS, ONE FINALIST AND ONE SEMIFINALIST APPEARANCE AT SCORE AT THE SHORE TOURNAMENT

February 24, 2011 – The six Kendall SC boys teams that competed in the 2011 Score at the Shore Tournament in Tampa, put on a command performance, racking up a combined record of 23 wins, 5 wins and 1 tie, while claiming two titles, one first place tie, one finals appearance and one semifinals appearance. Leading the way were the U17B White and the U16B White who were named champions and co-champions in their respective age groups.

The U17B White swept through their age group, winning five consecutive shutout games en route to claiming the championship medals. In group play they shut down Central Pasco United 3-0, FC Chicago U17 2-0 and Gainesville United SA 4-0 to advance to the semifinal round. A 1-0 win over Largo United set up a rematch against FC Chicago in the championship match. This time around the FC Chicago defense held stout and regulation finished tied 0-0 before Kendall SC emerged victorious in penalty kicks.

The U16B White also swept through five victories unscathed, but did not enjoy the satisfaction of being able to win a Finals match when it was suspended and Kendall SC named co-champions. Nevertheless they showed great form in winning all three first round matches against Florida Rush Nike (1-0), Florida Soccer Alliance Blue (1-0) and Illinois’ #3-ranked team, Chicago Fire Juniors North Red (2-1). In the quarterfinals Kendall SC bested Pennsylvania’s Montgomery United Premier and in the semis once again edged Florida Rush Nike 1-0 to score their second win over last year’s Florida State Cup semifinalists.

The U14B White played in a 5-team group that did not feature an elimination round, but nonetheless emerged undefeated at the end of the tournament. In their first match they defeated Hillsborough County United 2-1 and followed that up with a 2-0 wins over Leg A-Z Soccer Academy and Plant City Lancers Premier. The last game failed to decide a group winner as the two undefeated teams, Kendall SC and Wesley Chapel Flames settled for a 1-1 tie.

The U13B White started the tournament cold with a 1-2 loss to Florida Soccer Club Spirit, but picked up speed immediately afterward with wins over Tarpon FC (6-2) and Seacoast United Maine Crew (2-0) to finish first in their preliminary round group. In the semifinal game they topped Florida’s #8-ranked team, East Orange Soccer Club Scorpions, by a score of 3-0. Kendall SC finally met its match in the championship game, losing 1-3 to Illinois’ #5-ranked Chicago Blast Red.

The U18B White appeared to be on a roll to the championship after four consecutive wins over FC Tampa Internazionale (3-2), FC Chicago (4-0), Mako United (5-3) and Team Boca White (1-0) in the Quarterfinal round, but New York’s Blackwatch Highlanders cut short their dream in a heartbreaking 0-1 loss in the semifinals.

The other Kendall SC team playing in the tournament, the undermanned U15B White, got off to a good start with a 5-2 win over Cooper City Cobras, but struggled in their match-ups against the out-of-state teams, losing their next two games 1-4 to FC Chicago U15 and 1-2 to South Georgia United. Kendall SC was able to find its groove again, finishing up with solid wins over Tarpon FC (3-2) and Naples Sharks (6-0).

U15B WHITE WIN REGULAR SEASON CHAMPIONSHIP

February 14, 2011 – Kendall SC’s U15B White finished the weekend atop the South Florida youth soccer scene after winning the U15 Division 1 championship of the SFUYSA Regular Season. After completing an undefeated 9-0-3 season, the boys won both playoff games to capture the title. Kendall SC was well represented in the league playoffs with the U12B White, the U12B Blue, and U13B White all finishing among the top teams in their divisions.

The U12B White finished the season tied in third place of Division 1 with a 9-3-0 record, but could not duplicate their earlier victory over Doral United, losing to the cross-town rivals by a 1-2 margin in the quarterfinals. They will meet again for the third time in the first round of Region A Cup.

In the Division 2 quarterfinals, the U12B Blue notched a 4-1 win over the previously undefeated Margate Soccer squad, but were bested 0-1 by the Naples Sharks in the semifinal round.

After finishing 6^th of 18 Division 1 teams with an 8-3-1 record, the U13B White came up short in the quarterfinals, losing 1-2 to Pinecrest Premier Blue.

The U15B White kept their hot streak going after finishing the regular season at 9-0-3 and clinching a 3rd place seed in Division 1. The boys kicked off their title run against the Coral Gables Toro’s in the semifinal round. In a battle of defenses, with the score tied and the possibility of going into overtime, Adrian Davices produced the winning goal for Kendall SC with just minutes to go. The 1-0 victory set up the Finals match against Kendall Hammocks Lightning, a team Kendall SC has already tied twice this season.

Still pumped over the thrilling semifinal win the day before, the boys came out with determination, jumping to a 2-0 lead with Jonathan Diaz opening the score with a nice run from the right and finishing with the ball in the net. A few minutes later, defender and captain Carlos Galves gave Kendall SC a 2-0 lead with a beautifully placed free kick. Halfway thru the second half Alexander Oliva put in the 3rd goal of the game. Things would get a bit complicated in the end. Kendall Hammocks scored on a penalty kick with about 8 minutes left, and converted another score in the last minute, but Kendall SC finished off the 3-2 victory.

KENDALL SC GIRLS INK LARGEST COLLEGIATE CLASS TO DATE

February 2, 2011 – Today will be remembered as a record-setting date for the Kendall SC girls program as the largest group ever of graduating seniors confirmed their commitments to college soccer programs on National Signing Day. Five members of the U18G White will be headed to NCAA Division I schools, two are on their way to NCAA Division II schools, and two more to NCAA Division III schools.

KENDALL SC CROWNS TWO CHAMPIONS AND PLACES TWO OTHER FINALISTS AT THE KELME CUP

January 12, 2011 – The U12B White and U12B Blue emerged victorious in their respective brackets and the U11B White and U13B Blue reached the semifinals in this year’s edition of the Kelme Florida Cup in Naples, making it four out of five Kendall SC teams that advanced to the tournament Finals.

Playing up in the U13 Boys SILVER-2 group, the U12B White qualified for the semifinal after defeating Team Boca Navy 5-0 and South Kendall Soccer 4-0. Those results set up a rematch against South Kendall in which Kendall SC allowed its only goal against of the tournament, but still tasted victory with a 3-1 result. The final was the most hotly contested match of the weekend, but another stalwart defensive effort allowed Kendall SC to win by the minimum margin, 1-0, and raise the championship trophy.

Not to be left behind, the U12B Blue went undefeated in the U12B Silver bracket to earn the title. After wins over Naples Sharks White (2-1), and South Central Premier Black (2-0) assured Kendall SC of the group lead, they relaxed against West Pines White, but still managed a 0-0 tie. The stage was set for the thrilling Final in which Kendall SC shutout Miami Lakes SC 1-0 to take home the hardware.

After a challenging start to the regular season, the U11B White felt very pleased with their performance in the Silver group. They scored consecutive wins over SAA Real Madrid Castilla (3-1), Sunrise Elite (0-1) and East Orange Predators (2-1) only to lose 2-4 in the Final to a solid West Pines United squad.

The U13B Blue also had a strong showing in Silver group. Victories over Pinecrest Premier White (4-0), and 1 CFK Kraze Black (2-1) and a 1-1 tie versus cross town rival SAA Real Madrid Castilla set up a rematch against Pinecrest Premier in the Final. The Panthers caught Kendall SC with its guard down and orchestrated a stunning reversal to take the championship match by a score of 1-0.

The other Kendall SC team to compete in the tournament, the U10B Blue, finished with a record of one loss and two ties in the Silver-2 group, and was unable to advance to the elimination round.

KENDALL SC TEAMS PRODUCE TWO SECOND PLACE FINISHES AT ORANGE CLASSIC TOURNAMENT

January 4, 2011 – The two Kendall SC teams that participated in the 13^th Orange Classic Girls Tournament had strong showings as the U15G White advanced to the White Group championship game, while the U16G White finished undefeated in second place in the Showcase I group. More importantly, more than 25 college coaches watched the U16 girls play over the course of the four-day tournament.

The U15G White emerged undefeated from group play with consecutive victories over Lee County Strikers (2-1), Weston FC Nike (2-1) and Sunrise Sting (2-1), earning a shot in the semifinal against Tarpon FC White. Another solid defensive effort produced a 2-0 shutout over Tarpon FC and set up a rematch in the Final against Lee County Strikers. Unfortunately, the tables were turned and Lee County emerged victorious 2-1 stopping short Kendall SC’s championship aspirations.

For their part, the U16G White made the most of their opportunity to showcase their skills in front of college scouts, shutting down their opponents while allowing only one goal in four matches. They led off with a hard fought 1-1 tie against FC United Select, a top 5 team from Illinois, and followed that up with wins over Pennsylvania’s Southampton SA Sting (1-0) and RSL Florida (1-0). Kendall SC closed out the tournament with a scoreless draw with New York’s Patriots FC Power to finish at 2-2-0 in second place in the bracket.

THREE KENDALL SC ALUMNI EARN POST SEASON HONORS FOR UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI-KANSAS CITY

December 11, 2010 - The UMKC men’s soccer team had a total of seven student-athletes and one coach earn Summit League post season recognition, the league office announced Thursday. Senior John Bayron Sosa was named The Summit League Offensive Player of the Year, while senior defender and former Kendall SC member Brian Quintana was tabbed as The Summit League Defensive Player of the Year. Head coach Rick Benben was also recognized as The Summit League Coach of the Year.

This marks Sosa’s second straight first team all-league honor, as he was a first team member in 2009. Sosa also earned second team all-league honors in 2007 and 2008, and was named to the all-newcomer team in 2007. The St. Cloud, Fla., native was also a two-time Summit League Offensive Player of the Week this season. Sosa is second in scoring for the `Roos this season, with six goals. The senior also has two assists on the season, tallying 14 points on the year.

Sosa was named an ESPN Academic District 7 first team selection earlier in the month.

This is the first award for Quintana, who has started 16 games this season. Quintana has been a force in the back, helping hold opponents to just 15 goals this season. The Miami, Fla., native and the UMKC defense have posted eight shutouts on the year.

Coach Benben was named The Summit League Coach of the Year after leading his squad to The Summit League regular season title and the No. 1 seed in this year’s Summit League Men’s Soccer Championship. This marks Benben’s fourth Coach of the Year accolade, earning the honor following the 1999, 2001 and 2003 seasons. Benben, in his 13th season, has captured four Summit League regular season titles and made three appearances in the NCAA College Cup. On Oct. 30, Benben coached his squad to a 1-0 shutout over IUPUI for his 100th win of his UMKC career.

Junior forward Jimmy Simon also earned first team all-Summit League honors. Simon leads the Kangaroos this season with seven goals and one assist for 15 points. The junior has a .448 shot-on-goal percentage, tallying 13 shots-on-frame this year. In The Summit League, Simon ranks second in goals scored and third in total points.

UMKC had three student-athletes earn second team all-Summit League recognition, sophomore midfielder Tom Black, senior goalkeeper Ken Cooper and sophomore forward David Sarabia, who ended his Kendall SC career in 2009. Black has appeared in all 17 games this season and tallied one goal and two assists. Last season, Black was named to The Summit League all-newcomer squad.

Cooper leads The Summit League in shutouts (8) and ranks second in goals-against-average (0.88) and save percentage (.797). The senior has 59 saves on the year. Cooper was The Summit League Defensive Player of the Week back on Sept. 13. Sarabia appeared in all 17 games this season, scoring three goals with three assists. The sophomore was The Summit League Player of the Week on Oct. 4. Last sesason, Sarabia was The League’s Newcomer of the Year, a first team selection and a member of the all-newcomer squad.

The Kangaroos also had two student-athletes placed on the all-newcomer team, midfielder Donovann Castro and defender Jeffrey Stezovsky, another former Kendall SC member who graduated in 2010 from Killian Senior High School. Castro has appeared in all 17 matches for the `Roos and recorded 13 shots, placing four of them on frame. Stezovsky has also appeared in all 17 games this season, tallying two assists.

KENDALL SC COMES UP SHY OF A CLEAN SWEEP AT THE TAMPA BAY SUN BOWL

January 2, 2011 – The sun shone brightly for the three Kendall SC teams that participated in the Tampa Bay Sun Bowl and they bid goodbye to 2010 with a bang, claiming championships in the U18/19 Blue and U14 age groups and earning a finals berth in the U16 age group. Meanwhile, two Kendall SC members, Oscar Vasquez and Andy Alvarez, were recognized as MVPs of the U18 Blue and U14 brackets.

Kendall SC’s U14B White won its third tournament championship this season overcoming a tough challenge from last year’s State Cup Round of 16 opponents, Wesley Chapel. After defeating Florida SC Spirit 8-0 and tying RYSA Sarasota Mustangs 1-1, Kendall SC needed at least a tie against Wesley Chapel to advance to the Final. A 1-1 result set up the rematch in the championship game, and after 80 minutes of regulation and two overtime periods, neither team could gain the upper hand while the score remained even at 2-2. But Kendall SC prevailed in the penalty shootout to claim the winner’s trophy.

The U18B White took a slightly longer route to the top Blue Division title, but no team came closer than a two-goal margin in their five victories. Kendall SC kicked off with wins over Florida Rush Swoosh (4-1), Georgia’s NASA 11 Premier (5-3) and Strictly Soccer (2-0) in the preliminary round. They followed that up with a 3-0 shutout of Plantation Eagles in the Semifinal and a 3-1 victory over Florida SC Spirit to win the championship.

The U16B White came very close to defending their 2009 Sun Bowl title taking it all the way to penalty kicks in the Final before falling to Cincinnati United Crew Jr. Black after a scoreless match. Their title game appearance had been set up by four consecutive victories over Kentucky’s Bluegrass SC White (1-0), Georgia’s NASA 13 Premier (2-1), Auburndale Scream (3-0) and Atlanta Fire United Elite (4-1 in the Semifinal).

KENDALL SC TEAMS HIT THE ROAD FOR FALL SHOWCASE TOURNAMENTS

December 7, 2010 – The fall is the peak season for some of the country’s top college showcase tournaments and Kendall SC teams in several age groups hit the road and traveled out of state to display their talents at the Germantown Invitational in Tennessee, the Raleigh Showcase in North Carolina and the NEWS Showcase in New York.

Germantown Invitational

Kendall SC’s U15B White team had its first taste of a showcase tournament when they traveled to Tennessee, where they came up just short in the Germantown Invitational, reaching the semifinals in the top Gold division to cap off a successful showing against elite competition from the Southeast and Midwest.

Kendall SC first faced Tennessee State Champions Brentwood Premier. After a hard fought match the boys in white came out on top with a 1-0 win. Their next opponent was Mississippi State Champions MS/JFC Fire Premier. The game turned into a defensive battle with great goal-keeping, and when the final whistle blew the scoreboard had not changed in a 0-0 tie, earning Kendall the group lead and a pass to the semifinals.

In the semi’s Kendall SC faced yet another state champion, United F.C. International, out of Kentucky. Regulation ended even at 1-1 and the score remained knotted up after the first overtime period. But in the second overtime period United F.C. International placed the ball in the

back of the net with a perfectly placed free kick and the game ended 2-1. Although a berth in the Final would have been exhilarating, the boys returned to Miami with their heads held high, proud of representing Kendall SC.

Raleigh Showcase

Two weeks prior to the Germantown Invitational, the U16B White and the U18B White teams traveled to Raleigh, North Carolina, to compete in the NSS Boys College Showcase. The U18B White team faced off against Ohio North semifinalists Cleveland FC, North Carolina semifinalists Triangle FC White and Texas’ Lonestar Red South and emerged atop the group with one victory and two ties. The ties came against the two state semifinalists while the lone victory was a 3-1 result over Lonestar Red.

The U16B White team played in the fourth highest bracket and also finished with one win and two ties. They led off with a 2-0 win over Ohio South’s #6-ranked Crew Juniors Gold and followed that with a 4-4 tie versus DC United’s Youth Academy and a 0-0 tie against Virginia’s #7-ranked Reston FC.

National Elite Women’s Soccer Showcase

The U16G White traveled to Garden City in Long Island, NY to play in the NEWS Showcase over Thanksgiving weekend. Kendall SC finished play with a 2-0-1 record, posting 1-0 wins over New York’s Lake Grove Power and New Jersey’s Morris United Blaze, but losing 1-4 to Connecticut’s State Semifinalists South Central Premier.

U18B BLUE AND U10B WHITE WIN CHAMPIONSHIPS AT PLANTATION THANKSGIVING TOURNAMENT

November 30, 2010 – Kendall SC’s U18B Blue and U10B White teams swept through the competition at the 2010 Plantation Thanksgiving Classic to claim championships in the Boys High School and U10 Gold Divisions. The U9B Blue and U13B White came up just short in the Finals and the U15G Blue reached the semifinals to cap off a successful showing for the club in which 5 of 7 teams advanced past the first round.

The U18B Blue emerged from pool play with a 2-0-1 record after defeating Team Boca U18 Navy (0-1) and Cape Coral Cyclones U18 (4-0), and tying Weston FC U19 Premier Nike 1-1. A 2-1 victory in the semifinal rematch versus Weston set up the final game against state semifinalist and Region III Premier League team, SAA Real Madrid U18. Kendall SC came up big with a stunning 2-1 victory to take home the championship hardware. The U10B White continued their impressive display of winning soccer, outscoring opponents by a 28-6 margin on their way to a spotless performance. Kendall SC led off with solid wins over Parkland Predators Red (7-1), Wellington Wave White (5-0), and Boynton Beach Knights 10-2. In the semifinal they once again handled Parkland by a 9-1 score. Their first true challenge came in the Final, but the boys rose to the challenge and outlasted West Pines United Black 4-3 to claim the Gold title. In the U9 Blue Division, Kendall SC’s U9B Blue emerged undefeated in the first round posting victories against

Wellington SC (6-4), PlantationFC Predator (4-1) and Ft. Lauderdale Select (4-0), but ran headfirst into a spirited West pines United Gold that won the final 10-1. The U13B White are showing why they deserve to be back playing in Division 1 this season with another strong showing against top competition. They allowed only one goal in the first round, defeating Kicks SC 2-1, Team Boca Premier 4-0, and Strictly Soccer 0-2. Their solid play continued in the Semifinal when Kendall SC shut out Bonita Storm 1-0 and they suffered their only loss in the championship game falling 1-3 to Region A power, West Pines United Black. The only Kendall SC team that participated in the tournament, the U15G Blue, had a nice run to the Semifinal where they lost 0-1 to eventual champion, Coral Gables Storm. Along the way they defeated West Pines United Gold 4-0, and Renegades SC 4-1 and tied Weston FC Swoosh 1-1.
