KENDALL SOCCER COALITION NAMES NEW DIRECTORS FOR BOYS COMPETITIVE SOCCER PROGRAM
Matias Asorey and Luchi Gonzalez to be Co-Directors of Boys Development Academy Program – Marcos Colman to Lead U9-U12 Boys Youth Competitive Program

May 28, 2010 – Kendall Soccer Coalition, the No. 32 ranked boys youth soccer club in the United States according to Soccer America Magazine, announced today that Matias Asorey and Luchi Gonzalez have joined the club as Co-Directors of the Boys Development Academy program, which comprises the U13-U18 ages and is structured around the teams that play in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy. Assuming the leadership of the U9-U12 Boys Youth Competitive Program will be Marcos Colman, a long-time member of the club’s coaching staff.

Matias Asorey has been Assistant Coach of the FIU Men’s Soccer Team since 2007. He was a four-year letter winner at FIU from 1999 through 2002, and ranks tied for ninth on the school’s all-time scoring list. Mr. Asorey was twice named the Atlantic Soccer Conference’s Player of the Year. He shares with Luchi Gonzalez, not only a storied past in Miami youth soccer during the 1990’s but also the distinction of having led the Varela Vipers boys varsity soccer team to a state title as head coach. Mr. Asorey did so in 2007 when he was also named Florida Dairy Farmers Boys’ Soccer Coach-of-the-Year and Mr. Gonzalez followed suit in 2008, leading the Vipers to a #1 ranking in the country.

Mr. Gonzalez is the current head coach of the Gulliver Preparatory boys varsity soccer team and has also coached the past two year for the Coral Gables Toros program in the Florida Youth Soccer Association, leading their U14 boys team to the State Cup Final Four this past season. After completing his youth soccer career in Miami, he went on to star for Southern Methodist University, where he earned the Adidas College Player-of-the-Year Award and the Hermann Trophy in 2001. Mr. Gonzalez played professionally in the MLS, the USL 1st Division, the Peruvian 1st Division and the Swedish 2nd Division, and was a member of the US U20 Men’s National Team.

In addition to being Co-Directors of the Boys Development Academy Program, Mr. Asorey and Mr. Gonzalez will be the head coaches for the Kendall SC U18 and U16 teams that play in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy. Kendall SC is the only club in Miami-Dade County that has been invited by US Soccer to be a member of the elite national program that the Federation created in 2007, and in which only four clubs in all of Florida participate.

Marcos Colman has coached with Kendall Soccer Coalition since 2005. During the 2008-2009 season he led the U15B White team to an FYSA State Cup championship and he also coached this past year’s cohort of the U15B White team to the FYSA State Cup Final. Mr. Colman will now have oversight for the Boys Youth Competitive Program comprised of the U9-U12 age groups. Mr. Colman is a former scout in the Boca Juniors organization in Argentina and will continue to coach a team in the older ages in addition to coaching the U12B White.

The Boys Development Academy Program will count this year with the coaching services of several veterans of the Kendall SC program plus the return of Jairo Ossa, who is a former Assistant Coach of Haiti’s Senior Men’s National Team and also worked as an advance scout for the Honduran Men’s National Team, and the addition of Chris Rich, who has served three years as an assistant coach for the Barry University Men’s Soccer team and trained both the men’s and women’s goalkeepers after a stellar four-year career on goal for the Buccaneers. Luis Calix, who coached at least one of Kendall SC’s U.S. Soccer Development Academy teams in each of the past three seasons, will take the helm of two of the teams in the senior age groups that play under the Florida Youth Soccer Association affiliation, including the U18B White, which houses developmental roster players for the U18 Development Academy squad. The former captain of the Honduran Men’s National Team has been a fixture at Kendall SC and West Kendall Optimist for many years, and will instill his knowledge of the game on the boys in the key year prior to graduation.
