THREE’S A CHARM AT THE 2010 WESTON CUP
U9B White, U11B Blue and U12G White Win Titles - U13B White Reaches Final
|
February 16, 2010 – Kendall SC’s U9B White, U11B Blue and U12G White each walked away with championship trophies this past weekend at the 2010 Weston Cup. Close on their heels were the U13B White who reached the final in the U13 Boys Classic – Red bracket.
If the U9B White are any indication, the future looks bright for Kendall SC. The youngest members of the club made us all proud with a command performance over President’s Day weekend, winning the top Premier bracket in undefeated fashion while allowing only one goal over four games. Hernan Acosta’s boys defeated Plantation FC Copa 4-0, West Pines United Gold 5-0 and Weston FC Inter-Milan 3-1 to finish first in group play and then proceeded to repeat their feat versus Weston FC in the Final, this time scoring a 5-0 shutout.
The White team’s counterparts, the U9B Blue came close to reaching the Final in the Classic – White bracket, notching victories against Parkland Predators Beckham (5-2) and West Pines United White (9-2), but losing the deciding match 0-4 to Ft. Lauderdale Select.
The U11B Blue have left no prisoners in their wake this season, winning every game in the SFUYSA 2nd Division, and now claiming an undefeated title in the Classic – Red bracket at the Weston Cup. Their opponents failed to find the back of the net in four consecutive wins against Wellington Wave Blue (1-0), Cooper City Cobra Premier (2-0), Weston FC Swoosh (3-0), and Weston FC Laser (1-0) in the Final.
The Blue team’s club mates on the U11B White faced off against the higher seeded opponents in the Premier bracket and walked away disappointed after claiming a 2-0 victory versus Renegades SC, but losing by a one goal margin to Boca United Gold 3-4 and Boynton Beach Knights Red 2-3.

The final Kendall SC champion in the group was the U12G White. Arthur Paterson’s girls squeezed through to the semifinals in the Classic – Red bracket as the wildcard by the narrowest of margins. They opened with a 4-4 tie against Weston Swoosh, and followed that up with a 2-0 win over Renegades SC, but a scoreless tie against Boynton Beach Knights left them in second place in the group needing goal differential to advance. But they made the most of the opportunity, defeating Ft. Lauderdale Select 1-0 and then capturing the Final over Kendall Hammocks Lightning by a 1-0 margin.
For the U13B White the Weston Cup offered a chance at building back their confidence after a challenging regular season. Playing in the Classic – Red bracket they took first place in their group with wins over Parkland Predators (5-0) and Plantation FC 97 (3-0) and a 2-2 tie versus 10 Sport/JCC Maccabi, but in the Final the older Plantation FC 96 team eked out a 1-0 victory.
The other Kendall SC girls team in the competition, the U14G Blue was bitterly disappointed when they were eliminated without losing a game. They started off with consecutive ties against Wellington SC (0-0) and Boynton Beach Knights 3-3 and capped group play off with a 2-0 win over local rival SAA-Real Madrid, but it wouldn’t be enough to advance to the Final.
