U15B WHITE CAPTURE TITLE AT THE TAMPA BAY SUN BOWL
Championship run features wins over Top 10 teams from Ohio and New Jersey

January 1, 2010 – Kendall SC’s U15B White ended 2009 in style, claiming the championship trophy at the Tampa Bay Sun Bowl and cementing their credentials as one of the top U15 boys teams in the state of Florida. Hot on the heels of their first place finish in the SFUYSA Early Season, Marcos Colman’s boys controlled play in every game, scoring nine goals and generating many more scoring opportunities, while allowing only one goal in five matches.

The tournament started off auspiciously with consecutive shutouts over Region C CDL teams RSL Florida (2-0), and Fusion Futbol Black (3-0). Things got tighter when Kendall SC faced Ohio South’s #7 ranked team, Cincinnati United Premier-Crew Jrs. Black. A hard fought 1-1 tie earned the U15B White first place in the group on goal differential.

The semifinal game produced a dominant performance over New Jersey’s #8-ranked Sport Domain FC in a 4-0 shutout, setting up the showdown in the Final against Braden River Soccer, a team that finished undefeated in first place in the most recent season of the Florida State League. After a scoreless tie in regulation, the outcome had to be decided by penalty kicks. The championship was won when Kendall SC calmly scored on all five attempts, while goalkeeper Rafa Urbina made the crucial save on Braden River's 4th attempt. His heroics and four shutout performances earned Rafa tournament MVP honors.

At the conclusion of the event, coach Colman congratulated the boys on their all-around strong play and clutch performances, thanked the two guest players from the U15B Blue team that bolstered the team’s depth for the competition, and expressed very positive feelings about the team’s prospects for the rest of the year and the Florida State Cup.
