June 1, 2009 – Kendall SC’s U13G White outlasted the competition in the Cup Division of the 2009 Disney Memorial Day Shootout to win the championship in a spirited rematch against Sunrise Sting. Also facing a rematch in the Club final, the U13B Blue were not able to score a second win against JCC Maccabi, but walked away a satisfied group nonetheless with the finals appearance.
The U13 girls started off strong with a 4-2 win over Flagler United but hit a rocky patch with consecutive ties versus Florida Rush (1-1) and Sunrise Sting (2-2), scoring enough points to place second in their group and advance to the semifinals. With their goal firmly in sight, the girls never turned back, producing consecutive 3-0 shutouts in defeating Pinecrest Premier Blue and Sunrise to win the title.
Meanwhile, the U13 boys emerged undefeated from group play with victories over Gainesville SA Attack (5-1), Sarasota Storm (7-1) and JCC Maccabi (3-2). They continued their run with a 3-1 win against Boynton Beach Knights in the semifinals, but could not turn back JCC Maccabi when they met again in the Final, losing by the narrowest margin, 2-3.
