April 15, 2009 – Miami FC Kendall’s U18 team pulled off a very strong showing last week at the Dallas Cup, the highest-ranked boys soccer tournament in the United States, before bowing out in the semifinals against national powerhouse, Solar SC. Members of the class of 2009 came up short in trying to recapture the magic that led them to the Dallas Cup championship in 2006, but they still came home feeling proud of their achievement.
Playing in the U19 group, Kendall SC started off on a roll posting consecutive 2-0 victories over England’s Lewisham College Football Academy and California’s FC Barcelona. Their third match would be a preview of the semifinal, a scoreless tie versus Solar SC. That proved enough to advance to the quarterfinals as the lone second-place wildcard.
A 1-0 decision over North Texas Strikers in the quarterfinals set up the rematch against Solar, but this time around the local team put in the winning goal in overtime to claim the 2-1 victory.
Miami FC Kendall will next be competing for a spot in the national finals of the U.S. Soccer Development Academy when they compete in the league playoffs at the end of June in Greensboro, North Carolina.
