April 19, 2009 - In what could best be described as a perfect weekend for a perfect team, the scenery was set for a beautiful tournament with great weather and great results. The U10B White team played incredibly well over the weekend of April 18 & 19, at the Miami Lakes Shootout as they were crowned champions of the U10 Gold Division.
The weekend started off positively against hometown favorites Miami Lakes Soccer Club, and in the process, posting an 8-1 convincing win. There was something in the air, the players and spectators sensed it, yet no one would speak of it just yet. The second game would be against a West Pines United team which proved to be no match against the skillful determination and teamwork of Kendall SC, which led to an impressive 8-0 shutout victory.
The table was set for a showdown of epic proportions. On Sunday, April 19, the Kendall SC Boys would face daunting Key Biscayne Milan, a team which finish the league near the top of the table and they had failed to best on two previous ocassions. The game could have easily been a final, but instead it was a clash of two great teams battling for the right to play in a championship. This was most evident by the atmosphere during the game, whose intensity attracted the attention of many rival coaches and teams. In the end Kendall SC fought valiantly, enough to earn themselves a 6-6 draw, which they knew would be sufficient to send them through to the finals.
In less than two hours, Kendall SC would be playing for a championship against a Pinecrest Premier team that was strong and battle hardened, which had won several tournaments througout the year. What Pinecrest did not realize was they were facing a hungry team. A team of destiny, ready to stake a claim amongst the elite. Pinecrest scored the first goal, but the Kendall SC boys did not lose focus. Even though they trailed at half time, this would not be the day they would be denied. They were undeterred and battled on to win the game 5-4 and claim the championship. The Kendall SC boys played with immense passion and heart. This was a great testament to the spirit of will power and determination. This team’s confidence is brimming and their development has only just begun. Congratulations to Coach Pablo Podgaetz and his U10 Boys White team!
