Brian Shriver and Jean Alexandre Lead the Way Among More Than 50 Alumni that Played College Soccer in 2008/2009
January 23, 2009 – Former Kendall SC members Brian Shriver (University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill) and Jean Alexandre (Lynn University) were selected last week in the MLS Super Draft. Their selections cap a very successful year for the more than 50 Kendall SC alumni that were playing college soccer in the 2008/2009 school year, thirteen of whom received All-Conference/All-Region honors and four who participated in the NCAA’s Div. 1 College Cup Final Four.
Alexandre, who played on Kendall SC’s 2003 Super Y-League U17 National Championship Team, was chosen 12th overall by Real Salt Lake. Shriver, who played on the 2006 Super Y-League U20 National Championship team, was chosen in the second round by FC Dallas.
Joining Alexandre and Shriver in capturing All-Conference/All-Region honors this year were Federico Agreda (Garden City Community College), Yeong Choi (Georgia Perimeter College), Juan Guerra (FIU), John David Hernandez (University of Missouri – KC), Jean Pierre Jimenez (Warner University), Alejandro Melean (Holy Cross), Eder Molina (Georgia Perimeter College), Mario Ojeda (Garden City Community College), Bryan Perez (University of Missouri – KC), Misha Rosenthal (Northwestern University), and Alan Sanchez (North Carolina State University). They are at the top of the class of the large group of Kendall SC alumni that continue to demonstrate their talents at the collegiate soccer level. See the full list of alumni below.
2008/2009 College Soccer Honors
- Federico Agreda – Garden City Community College, All-Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference First Team
- Jean Alexandre: Lynn University, All-Sunshine State Conference
- Making the transition from midfield to forward, Alexandre proved to be the conference’s most explosive scorer and led the SSC in essentially every offensive statistical category. The native of Delray Beach, Fla., surpassed his three-year totals of 11 goals and 31 points by leading the league with 44 points, 19 goals and 1.27 goals per game. He was also tied for first with five game-winning goals. Alexandre becomes the third Knight in program history to garner Player of the Year honors, second to be named Offensive Player of the year and first to capture both accolades in the same season.
- Yeong Choi – Georgia Perimeter College, All-Georgia Community College Athletic Association First Team
- Juan Guerra: Florida International University, All-Conference USA First Team
- Guerra, who received the same accolade last year, led FIU in points this year with 16 on six goals and four assists.
- John David Hernandez: University of Missouri – Kansas City, All-Summit League Second Team
- John David follows up his 2006 selection to the all-Newcomer team with a second team selection in 2008 after taking a strong leadership role in the UMKC defense. He started all 17 matches on the season for UMKC, missing just 27 minutes over the course of the campaign.
- Jean Pierre Jimenez: Warner University, All-Sun Conference Second Team
- Jimenez was the Royals leading scorer with 16 points on seven goals and two assists. Three of his seven goals were game winning goals, none more important than the winning overtime goal against St. Thomas University in The Sun Conference Semifinals.
- Alejandro Melean: All-Patriot League First Team and All-Mid-Atlantic Region
- Melean made 19 starts on defense for Holy Cross and received his first career All-Patriot League first team honor. He finished fifth on the team in scoring with one goal and three assists for five points, including one game-winner. In the Crusaders’ season-opener against No. 13 Massachusetts, Melean scored the lone goal of the game, leading Holy Cross to a 1-0 victory.
- Eder Molina – Georgia Perimeter College, All-Georgia Community College Athletic Association Second Team
- Mario Ojeda - Garden City Community College, All-Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference First Team
- Bryan Perez: All-Summit League First Team
- Bryan has claimed all-league honors in each of his three seasons as a Kangaroo. Perez returned to the league First XI after scoring nine goals and adding six assists on the 2008 campaign. It was the second first team selection for Perez, whose two game-winning goals were second only to Harris for the Blue-and-Gold this season. The Miami, Fla., native has yet to miss a match for the Kangaroos during his career, with 56 consecutive starts.
- Misha Rosenthal: All-Big 10 Second Team
- Misha was in goal for all 11 of Northwestern’s shutouts this year. The mark led the Big Ten. Rosenthal’s 0.45 goals-against average was tops in the conference, while he also ranked second with a .849 save percentage.
- Alan Sanchez: All-ACC Second Team
- Sanchez has a team-high eight assists to go along with eight scores for 24 points. Sanchez earned All-ACC honors for the second time in his career, as he was previously named to the 2006 All-ACC second-team as well as a freshman.
- Brian Shriver: All-ACC First Team
- Shriver, who is Carolina’s first first-team forward selection since Marcus Storey in 2004, emerged as one of the nation’s top scoring threats as a senior. The Clearwater, Fla., native was second in the ACC with 13 goals and tied for third in the league with 29 points, which rank as the highest total by a Tar Heel since 2005. Shriver, who netted four game-winning goals and had three multi-goal games on the season, was honored as ACC and national player of the week after scoring twice in Carolina’s 2-0 win at Duke earlier this year. For his career, he had totals of 51 points on 21 goals and nine assists.
