Super Y-League

Super Y-League at Kendall SC

Kendall SC is a member of the Super Y-League (SYL), the country’s only national youth soccer league, designed to enable North America’s top youth soccer players to compete and develop under a professional structure. The Super Y-League is operated by the United Soccer Leagues, which also runs two professional leagues - the USL First and Second Divisions - the Player Development League, and the W-League, and is affiliated with US Soccer and US Club Soccer.

In 2006 the Y-League includes a select group of only 84 youth soccer clubs from the US and Canada organized into eight divisions across North America. The league contains many of the youth academies of USL First Division, USL Second Division, Premier Development League, W-League, and Major League Soccer clubs, as well as many of the established premier youth clubs in the country. Kendall SC competes in the league’s Southeast Division of the Southern Conference with eleven other clubs from central and south Florida. As of March 2008 there are teams registered in select age groups from FC Sarasota, Florida Soccer Alliance, HC United, Miami Strike Force, Orlando FC, Plantation Eagles SC, RSL Florida, Schulz Academy, Sunrise SC, West Pines United and Weston SC.

Seasonal play will be in the Spring and Summer months, with most of the games played from June-August and concluding by Labor Day weekend. Depending on the teams registered to each age group they will usually play each other home-and-away for a total of 12-16 games during the season.  The division leaders and sometimes the second place team earn a slot in the 2008 Super Y-League North American Finals, to be held in Tampa, FL in November.

Team rosters will include up to 26 players, with 18 dressing for each game. This approach allows for player absences during summer vacations. A player that is registered to a club team other than Kendall SC under FYSA, can continue to play with his or her USYSA team while playing with Kendall SC in the Super Y-League and is not required to fill out a player release form.

Super Y-League Olympic Development Program

The Super Y-League has an official Olympic Development Program sanctioned by the United States Olympic Committee and the United Soccer Federation to identify players to U.S. National Team Programs. Players will be scouted during league play by the national scouting system of the Super Y-League, which is comprised of selected qualified individuals within the clubs of the league.

During the regular season over a series of matches, players are evaluated for tactical, physical and psychological characteristics that will determine their ability to attend the ODP Select Camp held in January and February of 2009. The Super Y-League North American Finals is another ODP program of the system.

The top players chosen by the divisional scouting system in each age group per geographic division of the Super Y-League will attend the ODP Select Camp.  These camps are attended by U.S. National Staff Coaches to identify players for U.S. National Team Programs, as well as many of the nation’s top collegiate coaches.  These camps are usually held in Florida in January and February following the completion of the season.
