"FYSA State Cup Round of 16"

U17B WHITE AND U14B WHITE HEADED TO STATE CUP FINAL FOUR

May 16, 2008 – Kendall SC’s U14B White and U17B White are headed to Pensacola to play in the State Cup Final Four this weekend.  The U14B White proved that their SFUYSA Regular Season title was no fluke and the U17B White showed the depth of talent in that age group when they both advanced to the Florida State Cup Final Four championship, which will be contested on May 17 and 18. Four other Kendall SC teams battled it out in the Challenge Round as the club placed the second most boys teams in the top 16 among all clubs in Florida and four teams in the top 8 in their age groups.

The U17B White continues its defense of the state championship in a year which started with much uncertainty because more than a dozen players from that age group moved onto the U16 and U18 USSF Develop Academy teams. But the remaining players have stepped into the spotlight and set themselves up for a shot at the title. In the Challenge Round it took a 2-1 victory over Ormond Beach in the Round of 16 and a thrilling 3-2 PK win against RSL Florida in the Quarterfinals avenging an earlier loss in the First Round, but they are now only two wins away from their third state championship in the last four years. The semifinal game will be a rematch of last year’s Final against CFU. If they advance, Kendall SC will meet the winner of the Spirit of 90/91 vs. Brevard United game.

The U14B White benefitted from a Round of 16 bye, but laid any doubts to rest with a convincing 3-0 shutout over Strictly Soccer in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals they will meet Bonita Springs in a rematch of the league championship semifinals that Kendall SC won. If they reach the Final, they would play the winner of Weston Fury Premier and RSL Florida.

Two other Kendall SC teams reached the Quarterfinals. The U15G White toppled RSL Florida 3-1 in the Round of 16 only to lose 0-4 to Ponte Vedra Storm, last year’s state finalists. The U16B White defeated Miami Strike Force 2-1, but wasted two penalty kicks in a 1-3 quarterfinal loss to defending state champions Wellington Wave.

Meanwhile the U14B White and the shorthanded U18B White fell short of their goal in the Round of 16, losing to West Pines United 1-2 and Wellington Wave 1-2 respectively.

We wish best of luck to the U14B White and the U17B White in their quest for the state title.
