FOUR KENDALL SC BOYS TEAMS TRAVEL TO COLLEGE SHOWCASE TOURNAMENTS
December 10, 2007 – Four Kendall SC boys teams headed north in recent weeks to participate in college showcase tournaments in Tennessee and North Carolina. The U15B Blue and U16B Blue teams participated in the Select Germantown Invitational where they set the stage for future visits that will come in handy for recruiting by the more than 100 men’s college coaches that regularly attend the event. Meanwhile, the U17B White and U18B White displayed their talents at the CASL Raleigh Shootout, one of the premier college showcase events in the eastern U.S. For the high school juniors and seniors on those teams, this is an invaluable experience that can open doors to scholarship opportunities.
CASL Shootout – North Carolina
The U18B White, who played in the U19 Yellow group, squared off against DFW Tejanos 90 Premier (T 1-1), Cincinnati United Premier Red (L 0-4) and Birmingham United Thunderbolts (L 0-1) in the showcase format in which each team plays three matches and there are no semifinals or finals. The goal of these matches is to give all players a chance to play in front of the college scouts. Kendall SC was the highest seeded of five Florida teams in the 84-team field of U19 teams.
The U17B White were seeded in the top 20 teams out of 84 and were the only team from Florida to participate in the tournament. Playing in the U17 Green group, in three very contested matches they posted wins against Indiana’s Cutters 91 Red (3-2) and Virginia’s VLSC Wizards (1-0), and dropped a 0-2 decision to Pennsylvania’s PA Classics Elite Blue.
Germantown Invitational – Tennessee
The U16B Blue and the U15B Blue traveled on December 1 and 2 to the Select Germantown Invitational, which attracts many top teams from the Southeast and Midwest. The U16B Blue played in the U16 Gold Division in three tight matches that were all decided by one goal. They defeated Iowa’s Ankeny Fusion 2-1, but fell to Mississippi’s Jackson FC 2-3 and Kentucky’s United 92 Internationals 1-2.
The U15B Blue played in the Silver Division in which they posted a 1-1-1 record. In the first match they lost a 0-1 affair versus St. Louis Scott Gallagher II, but bounced back with a 1-0 decision over North Atlanta 11 Premier and finished it off with a tie against Michigan Rush Nike – Rutland.
The performances should set up both teams for return trips with the U16B aiming for the showcase event next season.
