U16B WHITE REACH FINAL AND U15B BLUE SEMIFINALS OF PLANTATION TOURNAMENT
November 28, 2007 – Kendall SC’s U16B White led the way for the club at the 2007 Plantation Thanksgiving Classic reaching the U16 Gold finals before dropping a 2-3 decision in their second contest against Tampa’s Strictly Soccer Select. The team placed first in its group in the preliminary round scoring wins over Arsenal G.O.U. (3-0) and Plantation Eagles (2-1) while settling for a 0-0 tie in their first meeting with Strictly Soccer. In the semifinal, they bested Space Coast United 3-2, handing the Region B team their only loss of the tournament, and setting up the rematch in the final.
In the U15 Gold bracket, Kendall SC’s U15B Blue went undefeated in the first round after tying Coral Springs Storm 3-3 and defeating South Dade United (4-2) and Naples Sharks (3-0). Their good fortune ran out in the semifinal round when they fell by a score of 1-2 to Florida state finalists and eventual champions, Sunrise Elite.
Other Kendall SC Teams Also participating in the tournament were Kendall SC’s U9B White (Gold), U10B White (Gold), U12B White (Blue), U16B Blue (Gold), U10G White (Blue), U12G White (Gold), U12G Blue (Blue).
The two younger boys teams had a strong showing even though neither was able to reach the semifinals. The U9B White lost only one game in arguably the Gold bracket’s toughest group - 0-3 to Weston Fury Premier, the tournament’s eventual champion. They defeated Lauderhill Lions 8-2 and tied 2-2 against the Miramar Strikers, a team to which they had previously lost at the West Pines Kick-Off Classic.
The U10B White’s only blemish was a hard-fought 0-1 loss to Weston Fury Swoosh coupled with ties versus Naples Sharks (3-3) and South Florida Elite (2-2).
The U12B White were not as fortunate posting a 2-0 victory against Weston Wild Wolfe while suffering losses to Cooper City Cobras (2-3) and Florida Premier (2-4).
The U16B Blue started off with a bang, scoring a 3-1 victory over IMG Soccer Academy, consecutive losses to Sunrise FC (1-4) and Space Coast United (0-4) doomed their fate.
On the girls side, a shorthanded U12G White were rusty off the gate, losing 0-3 to Weston Fury Premier and tying Cape Coral Cyclones 2-2, before showing their traditional form in a 2-0 win over defending Region A champions and perennial rival, West Pines United.
The U12G Blue was looking strong for the second tournament in a row, winning their first two games against Tropical Soccer Orange Crushers (4-0) and Naples Sharks (4-1). But their third opponent and tournament champion, Boynton Beach Knights, proved to be slightly better in a 1-2 loss that left the girls just shy of the Blue bracket semifinals.
For the U10G White, it just wasn’t their weekend, losing their first two games 1-3 to West Pines Black and 0-5 to Weston Wild Select before bouncing back to close off the tournament with a 2-1 win over Ft. Lauderdale Select. |
