U15B WHITE CLAIM THIRD BEST RECORD AT RALEIGH SHOOTOUT Post Wins Against Georgia State Champs and SC State Finalists
November 21, 2007 – Kendall SC’s U15B White made good work of their first trip to the Raleigh Shootout, posting the third best record in the Elite Gold flight, which featured the top eight teams in the 54-team field. Their two wins in three matches came against the highest level competition they have faced in tournament play to date – all rematches of prior contests during the past year.
The first game featured a rematch against Georgia state champions GSA Phoenix Red, who had won their first encounter at September’s Atlanta Cup. The tables were turned on this occasion when Kendall SC punched in the only score of the hard fought match with less than five minutes remaining in the second half to secure the 1-0 victory.
In the second game against Virginia’s state finalists Beach FC Red Fire, who had bested Kendall SC in their prior meeting in the finals of the 2007 Score at the Shore South, the Virginians once again proved too much for Kendall SC. After Kendall SC closed the gap to 2-1 early in the second half, Beach Fire put the game away on a controversial free kick in which they converted before the referee blew the whistle while our boys were setting up the defense.
Kendall SC did not let the loss dampen its hopes of a possible berth in the final and they came out firing on all cylinders in their last match against South Carolina’s state finalists, Columbia United FC Elite. They fell into an early hole when CUFC headed the ball in on a corner kick, but the boys turned the tables and scored three unanswered goals in a dominating 3-1 performance. The win marked the second time in the last year Kendall SC has bested the South Carolinians, with the first victory coming at last year’s Disney Jr. Showcase.
