MIAMI FC SENDS TOP YOUTH PROPECTS TO BRAZIL Two Former Kendall SC Members on Loan to Desportivo Brasil
October 22, 2007 – The 2007 USL-1 season may be over but Miami FC remains active in its commitment to developing young talent.
Nicolas Mosquera, 19, and Luis Calix, 19, two of Miami FC’s youngest prospects and both former Kendall SC members who signed at the beginning of the 2007 season straight out of High School are taking advantage of Miami FC’s youth development programs and have traveled to Brazil, where they are training and playing for Desportivo Brasil, in the state of São Paulo. Like Miami FC, the Brazilian team is owned by Traffic Sports.
“This is a great opportunity Miami FC and Traffic Sports are giving me. To play for Miami FC is already an honor and a pleasure, but to go to Brazil, where people live and breathe soccer all day long is the best chance a young player can get to develop as a professional player,” said Luis Calix.
“I can’t believe an opportunity like this came to me at such a young age. Of course I would like to come back to play for Miami FC and stay close to my family and friends, but if a team in Brazil shows interest in keeping me, it would be a great opportunity that I don’t think I would pass,” confessed Nico Mosquera.
“One of the main objectives of our organization has always been to find and develop young talent in this country. We believe soccer in North America has been experiencing tremendous growth in the so-called developmental categories, and we are particularly keen on seeing our U20 and U17 players become better athletes, professionals and people. Seeing young American players making an impact at the international level has become increasingly more of a common theme. We want to offer this possibility to our youngsters,” said Luiz Muzzi, Miami FC’s General Manager. |
