"Super Y-League August Update"

THREE KENDALL SC TEAMS ON A SUPER Y-LEAGUE TEAR
U14G, U16B and U17B making a strong run at North American Finals

August 18, 2007 – With less than one month to play in the Super Y-League season three Kendall SC teams, the U14 girls, U16 boys and U17 boys all stand undefeated. While the u14 girls have already secured a spot in the North American Finals in November, the boys teams are in great position to also do so.

The U16 boys are in sole possession of first place in the Southeast Division, amassing a 9-0-0 record and leading second place Weston by 6 points with five matches left on the schedule. The top two teams in the eight-team group advance to the North American Finals. Kendall SC has defeated every team in the division except Weston and allowed only one goal while scoring 27 in a dominating performance.

The defense of the U17 boys has been almost equally stifling, allowing only four goals en route to an 8-0-1. Kendall SC is positioned in third place in the table just three points behind Miami Strike Force, who have played three more matches. To their credit, the boys are the only team to defeat first-place RSL Florida and handed fourth-place Schulz Academy one of their two losses.

But the hottest story is the U14 girls team, who have reeled off six straight wins after tying their first two games and clinched a berth in the North American Finals. In that six-game span Kendall SC scored 21 goals while allowing only one against. That run has given them a three-point cushion over RSL Florida and a four-point differential versus Sunrise, who would not be able to overtake Kendall SC because they have only one match left on the schedule.

The key to the U14 girls run was a stretch of three games played on August 4 and 5 in the Tampa area after returning from a successful performance at the Score at the Shore tournament.

In Saturday’s first game, Kendall SC dispatched Flames FC 7-0, producing their greatest offensive output this season. On the same day Kendall SC played HCU and beat them 4-1 on a very hot and muggy afternoon. The offense once again found their rhythm and the defense shut down the HCU attack.

On Sunday, Kendall met up with top contender, RSL Florida. Both teams play the same style of football, a quick game with lots of touches of the ball. The first half ended with Kendall SC ahead 1-0. In the second half the girls applied high pressure play and scored half-way into the half, while the defense did not allow the RSL any room to maneuver, shutting them down to preserve the final score of 2-0.

Kendall SC accomplished all this without one of their top players, Jasmine Paterson, who was in California at the National ID camp for the 1993 age group.  The scoring punch was provided by 5 different players who combined for 13 goals: Scarlet Montoya (3), Jessica Clark (3), Nicky Zamora (3), Barbara Murillo (2), and Laura Piedrahita (2). The midfielders, Cerene Arsenault, Alexandra Fiore, Helenna Hercigonja, and Roxana Pit-Romero contributed by controlling the pace and keeping the attackers busy. The defense, led by team captain Katrina Seidenthal, Dasha Munoz, Alexia Clark, and Heather Williams clamped down on the opposition’s offense allowing a single goal over the weekend, with outstanding support from goalkeepers Kelley Struyf and Vannesa Angel.
