Florida Youth Soccer Association Programs
Kendall SC teams that play under the affiliation of the Florida Youth Soccer Association (FYSA) play in competitive local leagues, tournaments and championships that are sanctioned by the State association under the organization of the US Youth Soccer Association. Competitive teams range from ages U9-U19 and generally participate in club and league activities from August through May. In some age groups in which the club registers two teams, the second team is registered at the Division 2 level in order to allow the players to develop in an environment that is appropriate with the team’s overall skill level.
U9 and U10 teams play 6 players to a side on the field and do not have league or state championships. U11 and U12 teams play 8 players to a side on the field and compete in the FYSA Region Cup at the end of the season. Super Y-League Program
Kendall SC is a member of the Super Y-League (SYL), the country’s only national youth soccer league for boys and girls, designed to enable North America’s top youth soccer players to compete and develop under a professional structure. League age groups include U13, U14, U15, U16, U17 and U20. During the 2010 season Kendall SC will only be fielding teams in the Boys U14, U15 and U17 age groups.
The Super Y-League is operated by the United Soccer Leagues, which also runs two professional leagues - the USL First and Second Divisions - the Player Development League, and the W-League, and is affiliated with US Soccer and US Club Soccer. Kendall SC boasts and impressive track record in the Super Y-League including two North-American Championships. The club has placed at least one team in the semifinal round of the North American Finals in each of the last three of the past four years.
In 2010 the Y-League includes a select group of only 87 youth soccer clubs from the US and Canada organized into six divisions across North America. The league contains many of the youth academies of USL First Division, USL Second Division, Premier Development League, W-League, and Major League Soccer clubs, as well as many of the established premier youth clubs in the country. Kendall SC competes in the league’s Southeast Division of the Southern Conference with seven other clubs from central and south Florida.
Seasonal play is usually conducted in the Spring and Summer months, concluding by Labor Day weekend. Teams usually play between 12-16 games during the season. Division winners earn an invitation to the 2008 Super Y-League North American Finals, held in Tampa, FL in November.
Team rosters include up to 26 players, with 18 dressing for each game. This approach allows for player absences during summer vacations. A player that is registered to a club team other than Kendall SC under FYSA, can continue to play with his or her USYSA team while playing with Kendall SC in the Super Y-League and is not required to complete a player release form.
Tryouts for the 2010 season will be on an invitation basis. If you would like to the considered for a tryout please contact the club’s Director of Operations, Marcos Fernandez at ayso450@bellsouth.net or 305-965-0083.

U.S. Soccer Development Academy Program
In a move designed to improve the development environment for male youth soccer players throughout the country, the U.S. Soccer Federation has taken the initiative in formalizing a nationwide development academy that began play in September, 2007. Created to provide players with the best possible opportunity to develop, the U.S. Soccer Development Academy was initiated after a comprehensive review of player development systems in the United States and around the world.
In its third season, the U.S. Soccer Development Academy features 77 elite youth soccer clubs from around the country that have been carefully screened and invited to participate in the program. Four of those clubs are based in the state of Florida, and Kendall Soccer Coalition is fielding the only Development Academy teams selected to participate in the Miami area. The two teams, ages U16 (’93 & ’94 birth years) and U18 (’91 and ’92 birth years), play under the Miami FC Kendall name. For more information about the Miami FC Kendall teams, please contact team manager Migda Navarro at migdan@hotmail.com or 305-968-4182.
Each Development Academy club not only serves as a home for the nation’s top players, but also as a destination point within its community for shared learning and experience. One of the major advantages of the program will see players receiving integrated oversight from both youth club coaches and U.S. Soccer coaches, while training in their home environment. In turn, the Development Academy will provide an improved scouting environment for college, professional and U.S. National Team coaches.
According to U.S. Soccer President Sunil Gulati, the Development Academy aims to shift the focus of our young elite players from an ‘overburdened, game emphasis’ model to a ‘meaningful training and competition’ model that will ultimately lead to more success and will allow players to develop to their full potential.
To begin that process, U.S. Soccer is using the Development Academy to create a wide-reaching movement within the grassroots soccer environment that will educate parents, coaches and players on the value of expanding national player development directly to the clubs. Using the current U.S. Under-17 Residency Program as a model, the youth clubs chosen to be part of the Development Academy will increase the amount of time spent on meaningful training while also increasing the quality of their matches.
With an emphasis on creating a superior everyday training environment, teams in the Development Academy will have a clean slate for a calendar and will be required to train a minimum of three times a week, eliminating the growing trend of clubs playing an excessive quantity of games in lieu of consistent training patterns. To maintain an emphasis on training, Development Academy teams compete against other teams in the program and do not play in any other leagues, tournaments or State Cup competitions, and players are only allowed to compete on their designated Academy team (with exceptions for high school soccer and national team duty).
The Development Academy has been divided into ten divisions aligned under four conferences. Each division is comprised of eight or nine teams each based on geographic proximity. The Miami FC Kendall Academy teams will play 30 matches across a complete season. Based in intra-divisional results and a playoff round, eight teams will qualify for the annual Academy Finals at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif. The Miami FC Kendall Academy teams are comprised of Under-16 and Under-18 age players, with a minimum of 20 players on a roster, plus an unlimited number of Developmental Roster players from within teams registered to Kendall Soccer Coalition.
The initial Academy clubs were chosen by U.S. Soccer’s coaches from more than 200 applications based on a number of criteria, including a club’s history of elite youth player development and past success in elite competitions. Each subsequent year more than 100 clubs have applied for inclusion in only a handful of open slots. The Academy will also serve as a better coaching development platform, with each participating club receiving two invitations to the U.S. Soccer Development Academy Best Practices seminars. The development platform for U.S. Soccer referees will also be enhanced in the program, with U.S. Soccer assigning referees to all Academy matches.
